I sit there, stunned by the turn of events.
"But I saw the letter in your hands yesterday," Helen insists.
"I did. I put it back in my space ring, but now it's just… gone." Frustration gnaws at me as I pull at my hair. Myra rests her chin on her hand, staring at me with an intensity that feels like a silent rebuke.
"It's not my fault," I mutter, shrugging apologetically.
"What are we going to do now?" Myra asks, sighing as she runs a hand over her face.
Suddenly, I jump to my feet. "I won't let this hold us back. If word of this reaches my father, I'm doomed because he is going to obviously find ways to cut my resources when I come home next. But we can take the academy's normal entrance exams," I declare, determination hardening my voice.
"You mean…" Myra's eyes widen, but her expression quickly shifts to a frown. "Or we could use our communication stones to inform your father or my mother about the missing letter," she suggests.
