"Ahem... I was the one who delayed us," Alvida quickly answers, flashing a bright smile to keep Amelin from getting suspicious.
Lana and Alvida bow respectfully to Myra before taking their seats at the table. Alvida sits close to me, while Lana moves to sit next to her.
But just as Lana sits down, Myra suddenly slams her hands on the table.
"Sorry to interrupt your breakfast, Your Grace," Myra begins, her voice dripping with disdain. "But isn't it improper for a mere maid to dine at the same table as her master? She should be severely punished for even attempting to sit here, even if she was invited."
Everyone freezes, including my mother, who seems momentarily speechless, clearly caught off guard by Myra's outburst.
But I can't just let anyone disrespect Lana like that.
"Who told you she's a maid?" I ask, feigning confusion.
