At the top was one for which he had paid a significant sum to commission a painter, drawn according to his oral descriptions and requirements.
Back then, it was said that he had solicited over a hundred painters, including many famous artists of the time.
After many days of dissatisfaction with the results, he chanced upon a piece by an anonymous artist.
Upon seeing this painting, Sullivan Carmichael excitedly picked it up and shouted, "It's him!"
As such, the painting was treasured and, after Sullivan Carmichael's death, hung above his own portrait.
