Chapter 18 - Terrorist of 2070

Not much is known about The Disease, other than that they're a man and a failed reincarnation. The only account of him existing is brief footage of one of his terrorist attacks in a power room- one of the main rooms he always chooses to infiltrate.

When he was first found out, it was 10pm on 8/8/2070, nearly a full 4 years ago, but hasn't been caught since; it was most likely his very first attack because no other ship had ever reported such an odd, spontaneous infection before.

On the cameras that caught him, the event was sad and disturbing, but unclear.

His face was concealed by the bill of a hat, and he was wearing baggy clothes so that he wouldn't be recognized.

In his tow was the wife of one of the co-pilots of the particular community ship, The Morningdawn. She was a beautiful woman that was well known for her generosity in helping those in need.

At first, upon entering the power room, it seemed like only an affair was in progress. The man, while still concealing his face, had gone to the control console and shut off power to the cameras. What he didn't realize, was that all ships are equipped with emergency cameras of at least 1 per main room, in case of a power failure or tragedy. These record until destroyed, storing an infinite amount of data inside of them.

The one in the power room was only recording the main entry of it, just before the maze.

Alice, the woman, could be seen and heard joking and laughing, while the man remained silent or barely audible over the buzzing of the electronics in the room.

When he believed the cameras were off, he led her, hand-in-hand, into the maze where the horror could be heard.

The first sounds were of pleasure, but it only lasted a few minutes before the muffled screams of Alice could be heard over everything else; but wasn't loud enough to leave the room.

She was heard screaming for help, and for him to stop, before all of a sudden, she went quiet.

20 minutes had passed before the two were finally seen emerging from the maze, but instead of how she went into it, Alice appeared extremely ill and injured. They were still hand-in-hand, but she was staggering, and hunched, and the front of her burgundy dress appeared wet, but blood couldn't be distinguished.

Before exiting, however, the man grabbed her by the shoulders, and hunched down himself to look her in the eyes, and as he then used one of his hands to lift her face up by the chin, it could be seen she was dead; a zombie.

Her eyes were black, even her irises, though her pupils were white. Alice's exposed skin didn't show any signs of being injured, and she wasn't acting like a normal zombie with him.

But when she was autopsied, it was revealed her breasts had been devoured; the root cause of how she turned.

He then twisted Alice around, away from the door, before quickly making his exit and shutting the doors leaving her inside to wander, waiting for an unsuspecting person to enter.

And that is exactly what happened the following morning.

Upon the morning Mechanitechs making their rounds, a small group of 5 had entered the power room to inspect it for their first assignment. Upon entering they realized the cameras had been turned off, and began to talk amongst each other on trying to figure out what happened.

Only the top people of authority know about the secret cameras, so they were oblivious. The emergency cameras are only looked at when needed.

But, because they were talking like any other day, it attracted Alice from the innerworkings of the room. Upon her appearing, the group rushed over to her because of how she looked. She was extremely disheveled.

When the first person got to her, she attacked, instantly biting her first helper, before moving onto the others as they tried to help their coworker.

Eventually, only 2 of the 5 were able to get away upon realizing they were helpless, and were the only ones to survive.

Upon investigation, they tried to follow the emergency cameras to track the man, but he had unluckily slipped through a few blind spots, disappearing like a ghost.

Whoever the man was, had somehow turned her into a zombie and had control of her while she was already one.

Only the ones that are reincarnated could potentially possess such a power, and only the failed ones prefer to use the powers to do harm.

Even upon going through the logs of those that had recently entered the community or left, if even for a simple vacation, no one was suspicious. Even with the blood testing equipment that's used with everyone entering and exiting, and even on weekly checks, no one came up as infected or reincarnated.

The man somehow has clean blood- a power gifted from Persephone.

It was only the beginning, though.

Outbreaks continued to happen throughout a variety of ships, and since the Morningdawn was so quick to announce their attack, it had also unfortunately warned the perpetrator, and he hasn't been caught on camera since.

His only calling card now is a mini, black origami star that he sticks in his zombie's clothing.

Whoever he is, he is smart and has figured out how to blend in better.

The Matador, the community ship that Kaori and Jesse had escaped from, was the biggest terrorist attack yet, and finding the star in a zombie being used as a continuation, means he is also somewhere on the Accular.

The Disease is always present during an outbreak.

-----

Jesse commanded Kaori to immediately leave and warn her father, while he continued to search the RV.

They had to be quick, otherwise they risked their ship ending up just like The Matador.

Kaori, faster than she had ever ran before, even faster than when she was trying to escape the cook in her previous life, ran out of the RV, making it back into the hanger in a matter of minutes.

The group of workers she was previously waiting with almost began to cheer, assuming they had taken care of the issue, but the princess immediately interrupted them. She began demanding one of them take her to her father.

Confused, one of the younger workers volunteered because she demanded they ran, and the others were worried about their back and knees giving out before their shift.

Other than the initial attack, they had no reason to think something was wrong; Kaori was often spontaneous, and she adored her father.
