With this incident the face-loving man marked the face of Jidenna in his mind harbouring grievance which would later turn to malice incidents progress.
Jidenna who was unaware of the enemy he had gained threw his face away from the man then just then a slender man dressed in all white; white t-shirt and white trousers walked towards them with a light-hearted smile on his lips.
Compared to the indifferent faces and and annoyed vibes given to Jidenna immediately they saw him their faces brightened up like the sun itself.
By the side, Jidenna had the urge to clean his eyes in disbelief.
For a second he doubted, 'Are these the very same people?'
The other excused himself, mummuring something about files and crashing.
With a beaming smile that somehow still seemed professional the receptionist welcomed the slender man, "Student Li Wei. Are you here for your student ID?"
The slender man stood next to Jidenna, the ends of his hair shook to an invisible wind and with a polite smile he replied, "Yes, Miss"
"Okay, okay" she gestured, "have a seat—" she paused remembering that there were more than one person so she coughed awkwardly quickly changing her words, "the both of you can have a seat there while you wait" she pointed to a line of chairs by the wall.
The both of them thanked the receptionist with Jidenna being a tad slower and headed off the row of chairs.
Behind them the receptionist scrunched her nose. The motion was so light that it was almost non-existent.
In her mind she also marked Jidenna's figure with a big X. Thinking he's indeed a big brute, with no manners not at all like Li Wei who is both handsome and respectful.
Feeling correct she nodded her head before continuing her work to send them off.
On the other hand, Jidenna and Li Wei walked to different rows of chairs and sat down.
Jidenna chose the row on the right while, Li Wei sat on the one on the left.
Jidenna picked an empty chair and sat down, from the corners of his eyes he noticed the person next to him shifted a little to the side and the conversation slowed down to a hush.
Feeling displeased Jidenna focused his gaze on his palms and forced his mind to wander a bit.
Away from the strange and unfriendly atmosphere he found himself in.
Meanwhile, the situation directly opposite them, on the left side was different.
Once the people seated saw the figure of Li Wei coming someone stood up, giving him a smile dripping with flattery and said, "Li Wei, you can have my seat" without waiting for Li Wei's response he moved to a seat further away.
Without blinking, Li Wei sat down on the chair but gave the person a slight smile and said, "Thank you, for your care" after saying it he politely returned everyone's greetings.
His neighbour inched closer him and with a slight blush on her face she looked away wringing her fingers.
To her Li Wei's smile was just too dazzling.
Li Wei's eyes glided away from her and stopped at the lonely and isolated Jidenna. No one sat around the figure of Jidenna, compared to the bustling atmosphere everywhere else.
Where Jidenna sat was quiet like it was a different world apart from occasional whispers the tension in the air was si thick that some students stood up and moved away with a clumsy, "I need to go the restroom"
Their hurried departure only caused the situation to become worse.
Drinking all this in the corners of his lips twitched in delight, 'this should be enough…" he asked in his mind, 'Right, System?'
He imagined that by now Jidenna supposed to emit a decadent aura he thought, 'ill have to say that am surprised he still looks okay' he chuckled in his mind, scanning Jidenna's Expression again, 'that is if I did not notice the slight dent in his eyebrows. Then I would have said he is totally unbothered by what's happening'
He waited but to his surprise the system's reply did not arrive. He shrugged it off thinking, 'well that little ancestor sometimes turn into a grumpy old man. Who knows what it's doing now'
The receptionist walked towards them, the clinking of her heels against the tiles pulled their minds away their train of thoughts.
Still with a smile she walked up to Li Wei first despite Jidenna arriving first.
After settling him she dragged her feet to Jidenna and with a smile plastered on her face she handed his ID to him her eyes stayed on anything that wasn't him.
Jidenna's displeasure increased inwardly he began doubting, Are you sure coming to this university was the best choice? Ever since I entered this office I have received nothing but indifference. If the staff who are supposed to be professional are like this then how would the students be?'
Afraid of finding out the answer, Jidenna quickly cut if his train of thoughts. Pushing himself off from the chair he walked towards the door while deciding, 'you know what?if this is the way I'll be treated each time I come here like am a beggar, I'll better figure it out by myself' he shoved what was given to him into his bag 'starting with figuring out where my dormitory is.'
When the receptionist saw his actions she became even more displeased at Jidenna. To her his actions only served to solidify her initial impression of him.
Comparing Li Wei and Jidenna in her mind, 'one is humble, handsome from a rich family while the other is ugly, arrogant and from a poor family.'
'he's so poor that he school have to give him help' she scorned him.
But when Jidenna's hands were on the door handle a she called out to him, "Student Jidenna Wait!" when Jidenna turned around it was the same receptionist.
With a wider smile that still came off to Jidenna as false she announced, "We have reviewed your application and we're pleased to offer you a grant to support your studies"
Jidenna's eyebrows went up in surprise, "A Grant? Really? Thank you so much" the gloom that overshadowed him evaporated just like that.
The receptionist gave a more geniue smiled. "You're welcome. The grant will cover part of your tuition fees and living expenses."
