Chapter 29 - System??

*Ding!*

[System Voice speaking]

[Your Soul has been tampered with!]

[choose option]

[Curse / Gift]

My soul was tampered with?, If this thing was a neuralink chip, how does it relate to the soul, the soul isn't anything technological, right? Luca mused, his expression completely confused.

As the voice spoke, the golden interface reflected the words.

He heaved a sigh.

But this interface is surprising, normally a neuralink connects with an external hardware or computer, but my eyes are actually acting as the interface projector, is there any technology like that?

Hmm!  Anyway, let me choose gift, who would want their soul to be cursed.

"Gi—

The voice chimed in before Luca could finish choosing an option, cutting him off.

[Notice!: interference between two different curses detected!, System may take time before being integrated!]

[System integration complete!]

[System Initiation begins!]

The voice rang in Luca's head multiple times while the golden interface displayed it at the same time, Luca struggled to get his bearings.

[System initiation is in progr-e-ss]

The voice started cackling like there was a loss of signal.

Wait a minute!

Luca yelled.

[Cur-ses a-re opp-osi-ng e-ach ot-her]

[Th-ey ar-e re-fusing to mer-ge]

[Oh.... Da-mn Sou—....]

The voice trailed off, the interface was starting to fade out, Luca managed to catch a glimpse of what the voice said last on the golden interface as it began to fade out slowly.

"Oh Damn soul?"

"What the hell, don't mess with me!!!"

He screamed. Luca regained his composure, looking around, he saw people gawking at him.

A teenage boy in a patient uniform, yelling and talking to himself, I can definitely relate.

Luca thought and nodded, he already guessed what they were thinking. He was the only one who could hear the voice and see the golden projected interface.

The golden interface was almost faded out.

But Luca noticed something on the screen, it brought out a message.

[Notice! : WILL: I WILL TRY, will be initiated, System Initiation incomplete!]

It then faded out completely.

As if on cue, Luca's body reacted, and he ran faster to the building wall, before he knew it, he had climbed up the wall of a building about five stories, he had reached the top of it in a matter of a couple of deciseconds.

He wasn't even sure how.

The man looked back at him with a surprised expression. He was a scrawny-looking man in his mid-thirties with black tousled hair. He wore a white T-shirt and blue trousers.

"Who the hell are you?" He snarled at Luca with a raspy voice.

"Chill, I'm here to help you," Luca said smiling sheepishly.

"Or let me guess, you are some patient who was tired of life and wanted to commit suicide" the man concluded scanning Luca, and grinning like it was the most obvious thing. "Don't worry lad, life isn't fair, it's your turn after I jump"

"No man, you don't have to do this, think about your children," Luca said trying to sound convincing.

"I don't have" the man replied sharply with a scowl

"Your wife?" Luca asked again.

"That bitch, why would I care, she ran away with a lot of money, she tricked me and ran away" the man started sobbing "That money was a loan, a loan I got for her in this damn company" he pointed downward at the building.

"Now I'm broke with loan"

"Oh... That was painful" Luca blinked.

"But you don't need to do this, you could work harder, start afresh, and live your life" he tried to sound convincing.

Luca thought he sounded dumb trying to sound convincing, like what is with him giving a motivational speech, he had just escaped from one problem, and instead of going home to rest, before he knew it he had entered another.

"I think I'm starting to get fed up" The words escaped Luca's mouth as he sighed and gazed upwards.

"Yeah that is what I'm talking about lad," the man said, having overheard Luca.

"I don't mean that!" Luca yelled.

"So what do you mean?" The man asked puzzlingly.

"I wish I could return to my normal life, I don't want to die," Luca said emotionally. Even mountains would be moved.

"I see, maybe you are right kid" the man replied, he was now teary-eyed, "Perhaps I should reconsider, my life has been shit, but maybe, just maybe I could live a fulfilling life, I wished so too, Deep down, I knew I wished so, but I couldn't face it, that was why I sought to commit suicide, I'm moved lad, I'm moved" he sobbed, placing his hands on his head, shooking it slightly like some agama lizard.

Huh?... I actually made him get emotional and reconsider?

Luca thought.

Perhaps I might make it as a life coach, I think I have the talent.

He grinned, hand on chin.

"So how are we going down, kid, where are the choppers?" The man asked like it should be obvious.

"Choppers? What about the elevator?" Luca asked.

"The one to the rooftop isn't working, I ensured it broke down this morning when I arrived, it will take a while before they find out and start repairing it," he said.

"You mean you work here?" Luca asked surprised.

"Yeah, I'm part of the maintenance team" the man replied. "Me and my wi— I meant, I met her" his face contorted as if the words were bitter.

"I don't bring any chopper, but give me a second," Luca said, moving toward the edge of the building top.

Luca felt the wind whistling past his face. The sight of people walking below—they looked very small. Luca thought the building was quite tall. How the hell did he climb up so easily, as if he were a cat burglar with jet packs in his sneakers?

How did I do it?

Luca pondered for a moment.

He slapped the side of his head, no voice, he blinked, squinted his eyes, no projected golden interface.

Let's practicalize it then, perhaps the system may come out.

Luca thought...
