Chapter 80 - Chronicle 80 ~ Dragon Spine Mountain (2)

As the sun climbed higher in the sky, the landscape was bathed in a warm, golden light that seemed to bring the very rocks to life. The mountains seemed to stir from their ancient slumber, their rugged peaks reaching for the sky like giants awakened from a deep and abiding sleep. The air was filled with an energy that seemed to pulse with the beat of the earth itself, a rhythm that seemed to call to them, beckoning them deeper into the heart of the mountains.

The landscape was alive with sound and motion, the rustle of leaves, the chirping of birds, and the distant rumble of thunder that seemed to echo through the valleys like the heartbeat of the earth itself. The mountains rose higher and higher, their peaks hidden in a veil of mist that seemed to pulse with an otherworldly energy, beckoning them deeper into the heart of the mountains, into a world of wonder and awe that seemed to stretch out to infinity.

But looking at it above from a bird's eye point of view, it looked like the spine of a coilling dragon and the direction they came out from was the tail.

"If I'm not wrong, then this should be the Dragon spine mountain region." Mara exclaimed in surprise, which elicited a strange look from her two companions.

"You have a information about the Mystic Realm?" Vin asked with furrowed brows as his pupils constricted a little in surprise.

"Well not exactly, but I do know about the four important regions that surrounds the center where the Tower of Trials is located." Mara replied.

"Four regions, Tower of Trials?" Vin asked as he cocked his head sideways.

"Hhn, that's correct, we have the : Dead lands Volcano, Dragon spine mountain, Evil ghost swamp and finally the Artic Snowlands valley. And in the center of it all is that Tower of Trials." Mara explained.

"And how did you come up with that information?" Vin asked again

"Well it's not like it's a secret or anything, but I heard about it from the top disciples of the sect, it's seems they know some things we don't, I even heard there's a secret core layer" Mara shrugged her shoulders.

This left Vin in thoughts 'So the place I landed first is called the Deadlands Volcano, and I'm guessing I'm the only one who entered it, since I got Zara in the end, and now this Dragon spine mountain, I wonder what I would find in it. But then the most important thing is that, if where we first entered is the the outer layer, this place is the Inner layer with the four regions, then that means the so called core layer is where the true Mystic Realm is, I wonder how the other two regions are though. Well let's just take it as it comes, I wonder what I'll find in this place.'

After arranging his thoughts he focused again on the mountainous region in front of him, taking the entirety of it in its full glory.

"Well what're we waiting for, an invitation, let's go explore this place" Vin said as they moved forward.

As they ventured deeper into the Dragon Spine mountain region, the landscape unfolded like a canvas of wonder. Towering peaks gave way to hidden valleys, each teeming with ancient secrets and mysterious energy. Vin's senses hummed, attuned to the subtle vibrations emanating from the land.

Mara walked alongside him, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "I've heard rumors of ancient ruins hidden within these mountains. Some say they hold the keys to unlocking the Mystic Realm's deepest secrets."

Vin's gaze intensified, his thoughts racing with possibilities. "We'll need to be cautious. If the Eye of the Midnight Sun is searching for me, they may also be seeking these ruins."

Zara, sensing Vin's tension, growled softly, her ears perked up as she scanned their surroundings.

As they climbed higher, the air thickened with an otherworldly presence. Vin's God's Eye pulsed, detecting hidden patterns and ancient runes etched into the rocks. The symbols seemed to whisper secrets, beckoning him toward a hidden destination.

The path narrowed, winding through treacherous ravines and sheer cliffs. Vin's agility proved unmatched as he navigated the treacherous terrain with ease, Mara following closely behind.

They did this for the next few days going deeper and deeper into the mountainous region, until looking at them from above they had actually reached the head of the dragon, or that's what it seemed like finally arriving at a valley.

Suddenly, a burst of wind swept through the valley, carrying the faint scent of smoke and ash. Vin's head snapped toward the source, his eyes locking onto a plume of dark smoke rising from a nearby peak.

"Fire," Mara whispered, her hand on her dagger. "But it's not natural."

Vin's gaze hardened. "Let's investigate. Could be a signal or a trap."

With Zara leading the way, they approached the source of the smoke, their senses on high alert for any sign of danger. As they crested a ridge, a breathtaking sight unfolded before them: an ancient temple, shrouded in flames, its entrance guarded by imposing stone statues.

Vin's heart quickened. "This is it. The ruins we've been searching for."

Mara's eyes widened. "But what's burning?"

Vin's gaze swept the temple. "Not just wood. Something far more otherworldly."

Without hesitation, Vin charged forward, his companions close behind, ready to face whatever secrets and dangers lay within the burning temple, he felt a deep sense of reverence as he walked closer to it.

As they approached the temple, the flames danced higher, casting flickering shadows on the surrounding rocks. Vin's God's Eye pulsed with increased intensity, detecting a labyrinthine network of ancient energies within the temple.

"Be cautious," Vin warned, his voice low and urgent. "The fire may be a trap, or a test."

Mara nodded, her dagger at the ready. Zara growled softly, her eyes fixed on the temple entrance.

Upon entering, they found themselves in a grand hall, the ceiling lost in darkness. The air was thick with smoke and the scent of incense. Flames licked at the walls, casting eerie shadows on the ancient stone.

Vin's gaze swept the hall, his God's Eye tracing the intricate patterns of energy. "There's a central chamber," he whispered. "The heart of the temple."

Mara followed close behind, her eyes scanning for hidden dangers. Zara padded silently, her senses on high alert.

As they navigated the winding corridors, the flames grew more intense, the heat oppressive. Vin's skin prickled with sweat, but his determination remained unwavering.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the smoke-filled shadows. Tall, imposing, and shrouded in hooded robes.

"Hehehe as expected, you're here, Zero," the figure intoned, its voice like a sinister whisper. "I have awaited your arrival."

Vin's gaze narrowed. "Who are you?"

The figure stepped forward, its hood falling away, revealing a face as pale as white chalk, he looked like he could die at any moment as there didn't seem to be the slightest trace of blood flowing within him.

There was a sinister smile on his face as he walked towards them, his body emitted a thick and condensed greenish hue, which they could only assume was poison as they felt a little nauseous just being near it.

"You can refer to me as Malak, an Acolyte under the Dark Disciple Midwak" Malak said relishing in the shocked expression on the faces of the both of them.

And it was no small amount shocked that they were feeling right now, as they were wondering just how this person had managed to find them, Infact it seemed he had been waiting for them, almost like he knew they were going to come this way.

"You must be wondering how we're always able to find you right, well that's because one of the Acolyte under the master has an ability called 'Echoesight'," Malak continued, his voice dripping with malevolence. "It allows us to see the residual echoes of one's soul, tracking their path across realms."

Vin's eyes narrowed. "Echoesight? That's impossible. No one can track soul echoes."

Malak's smile grew wider. "Ah, but that's where you're wrong, Zero. Echoesight is a rare gift, granted only to select Acolytes. It allows us to see the faint impressions left by one's soul on the fabric of reality."

Mara's gaze intensified. "You're saying you can track Vin's soul?"

Malak nodded. "Yes, and through him, the Exodus Order. You see, Zero's soul is... unique. Its resonance echoes loudly, making it child's play to follow."

Vin's thoughts raced. Echoesight explained how the Eye of the Midnight Sun had consistently found him. He needed to understand more.

"What's the range of this Echoesight?" Vin asked, his eyes locked on Malak.

Malak chuckled. "Limitless, Zero. As long as your soul resonates, we can find you. And with each use, our hold on your echo grows stronger."

Zara growled, sensing Vin's growing unease.

Mara stepped forward. "We won't let you use it against us."

Malak's smile twisted. "Oh, but it's already too late. The Dark Disciple has already seen the echoes of your soul, Zero. You'll never be able to hide again."

Vin's determination hardened. "We'll find a way to break this Echoesight."

Malak's laughter echoed through the temple. "I'm shaking with fear. You're no match for the Dark Disciple's power."
