Chapter 13 - Second Stage Delay

We had no time to celebrate for killing the target.

"Support team, change position with the vanguard team!" I shouted.

Kevin's team needed to recuperate to recover their stamina so I immediately instructed the support team to switch with them. However, Rose's team wasn't specialized in defense so they could only hold on temporarily. We had to be quick in killing our next target.

After giving instructions to the support team, I pointed out our next target. "Follow me to kill that thing!"

(Back to MC's POV)

Surprisingly, Jonathan and the others managed to hold their ground against sixteen Devourers. I didn't expect that they would be so coordinated in their strategy. 'As expected of Jonathan. Even in that short amount of time, he managed to come up with a plan to fight the Devourers. He would probably be rated as an SR hero after we complete the first level.'

'In 'The World of Chaos', the heroes would receive their individual rankings after completing each level. The hero rankings are subdivided into five categories; 'N' represents the normal heroes, 'R' for rare heroes, 'SR' for super rare heroes, 'SSR' for super super rare heroes, and finally 'UR' for ultra rare heroes. Most heroes fall under the 'N' category. Only those with a special set of skills were qualified to be categorized as 'R' or above. Considering Jonathan's intelligence and observation skills, I think he would at least be rated as a rare (R) hero.'

'There are perks that come with these hero rankings. For instance, a normal (N) rank hero would get a common trait that would significantly boost their power. An example of such trait would be the 'Strong Man' trait which increases the hero's strength stat by 10%. This had little use in the early stages since the stats of the heroes are still not high, but once the heroes' stats would be in the triple digits, the boosting effect of this trait would be considerably greater.'

'There are also more powerful traits like what I have now, but only higher-ranking heroes would receive them. '

While I was occupied by my random thoughts, Jonathan and the others had already killed the third Devourer. Now, only thirteen Devourers were left. With the decrease in their number, the group had more room to maneuver.

"Oh? It seems like there is another hero other than those I have been observing." I muttered as I watched the woman who seemed to be leading the support team. Her weapon was a spear, but I could tell that she wasn't proficient in wielding it. Her form was so awkward that even a layman like me could see that something was wrong.

Mastering the spear was difficult. Without a professional trainer, learning how to wield the spear would take a long time of practice and battle experience.

The woman was also aware of her deficiencies, but because of her high speed stat, she managed to somehow overcome this weakness.

Time passed by in the blink of an eye, the group had already killed half of the Devourers! Some of them were injured, but no one had died. It was a feat that I thought was impossible, but they managed to do it. Well, the biggest reason for their survival was Jonathan's ability to command. It looked as if he could see the battle in aerial perspective which made him give timely instructions to the group. He was on a whole different level compared to the rest. His combat ability might be a bit lacking, but his near-perfect leadership made this ragtag group organized.

"I underestimated them… It looks like I don't even need to intervene." I muttered, feeling a bit surprised by the unexpected situation. I thought that they would struggle to kill a few Devourers, but they did more than that.

At this moment, only five Devourers were alive. Furthermore, no one died in Jonathan's group except for some light to heavy injuries.

After less than twenty minutes, the last Devourer collapsed, bleeding. It was on its last breath and the person who took the last hit was Jonathan. He stabbed its neck with the blade of his spear.

"Amazing! They killed all the monsters!" The survivors who chose to stay out of the fight were shocked. Some even regretted that they didn't join the group. However, it was too late for regrets.

[All monsters in the area have been killed.]

[You received 5 Chaos Coins.]

[You received 5 EXP.]

[Due to the effects of your trait 'Triple Feast', the rewards you received will be adjusted.]

[10 Chaos Coins have been added.]

[10 EXP have been added.]

[The second stage will be delayed with the death of all the Devourers in the area.]

[Time left before the second stage begins: 48:00:00]

[47:59:59]

[47:59:58]

Seeing this, I furrowed my eyebrows. I had forgotten that killing all the Devourers in the area would result in this.

In the game, the added time wasn't an issue since I could just command my heroes to gather the meat from the slain Devourers to be used as food. However, it was different in reality. Who would eat such ugly-looking creatures?

As someone who had played the game, I knew that their meat was edible, but the Devourers looked so repulsive. I doubt if the survivors would even eat their meat if they knew that it was edible.

"Does it mean that we can stay inside the safe zone for another two days?"

"That's good! That makes me relieved."

Most of the survivors felt relieved by the notifications.

Looking at their relaxed faces, I sneered. 'I wonder if they will remain this relaxed after eating all the food. The supplies we have collected aren't even enough to feed half of the group.'

"Hey! We need help here! We have injured people here!" Jonathan and the others immediately brought the injured fighters inside the safe zone to be treated.

"Mark, do you have the medicine kit?" Jonathan asked as he approached me.

"I do have it, but I don't think it would be enough for everyone," I responded as I took the medicine kit from my storage space.

"We will prioritize treating the ones with severe injuries." Jonathan calmly accepted the medicine kit.
