A group of police officers helped the disabled people and children onto the ambulances, but there clearly weren't enough ambulances, so they gave up their police cars as well. Even then, they had to send these people to the hospital in batches.
Several female officers volunteered to stay behind to take care of the children. These children, one by one, were pale and thin, and their frail appearance was heart-wrenching.
"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid, you're all safe now, no one will bully you anymore!" a female officer softly comforted a five or six-year-old girl, who was covered in dirt but still, the officer hugged her tightly with compassion.
The little girl curled up in the female officer's arms, as if it had been a long time since she had felt such warmth, clinging tightly to the officer's clothes, not daring to let go for fear that letting go would mean the officer would leave.
