The morgue of Capital City Hospital was tucked in a gloomy corner of the facility, an area scarcely visited by anyone save for a hunchbacked old man named Lu, who stood watch.
Lu rested his legs on the table, sipping liquor and snacking on peanuts, all while enjoying the Beijing opera with evident satisfaction.
Having guarded the morgue at Capital City Hospital for over a decade, the job, undesirable to the average person, suited him well given his courage and toughness. With nothing much to do daily, earning a few thousand dollars a month wasn't bad at all.
Lu was in high spirits today, having drunk a few extra measures of alcohol, and now a haze of tipsiness enveloped him when suddenly, footsteps echoed from the doorway.
"Could it be another body being delivered?" Lu furrowed his brow and looked toward the entrance.
