Chapter 48
Lucien POV.
As I strolled alongside Alyssa over Valoria's little streets, the tension in the air seemed nearly stifling. Now the city was eerily silent; the happy commotion of the festival had faded into the night and only the echo of far-off laughing and the sporadic flutter of lantern light remained. My ideas were everything from quiet. The choice of Raiden to believe Seraphine gnawed at me, a sour feeling in the back of my throat. Alyssa looked at me, her face a mixture of weariness and concern.
"Lucien, since we left the square you have remained quiet. What else is on your mind? I hesitated, not sure how to express my misgivings without coming across as suspicious. "It's Raiden's deal with Seraphine," I murmured softly at last. I have little faith in her. About her or what she actually wants, we know nothing. Alyssa nodded and wrinkled her brow. I see it. Still, our choices are running thin.
