A well-equipped and powerful knight regiment of over a hundred men collectively committing suicide by ramming the gate of his castle and being wiped out—now that would be quite a story.
He would certainly make a big splash among the high nobility, much more so than the last time he repelled a werewolf invasion.
Just as Count Warren was imagining how to embellish this battle to make himself look more impressive, the leading black-robed knight finally charged into the gate tunnel below.
A dull thud echoed, and the smile on Count Warren's lips grew even wider.
He could almost picture the disbelief on the knight's face as he crashed into the gate. Unfortunately, the gate was located several meters inside the deep tunnel directly below the city wall, making it impossible to see what was happening from above. This left Count Warren feeling a bit regretful.
As the leading black-robed knight charged into the gate tunnel, the knights behind him followed suit, rushing in one after another. Soon, Count Warren's expression froze.
Nearly half of the heavy armored knights had already entered the gate tunnel, with more still charging in. However, the tunnel was only a few meters deep, and even if the knights in front were packed together, it couldn't possibly accommodate dozens of fully armored knights and their horses.
Just as Count Warren was filled with disbelief, intense sounds of battle suddenly erupted from inside the gate below him.
Count Warren couldn't see what was happening at the gate, but the knights following Chen Mo saw everything clearly.
At the moment of impact, Chen Mo swiftly drew his longsword and, with lightning speed, delivered a vertical slash at the gate right in front of him.
The brilliant silver sword light sliced through the center of the gate like lightning, and Chen Mo's warhorse crashed heavily into the thick gate.
There was no blood splatter or broken bones as Count Warren had imagined. The tall and robust black warhorse beneath Chen Mo let out a loud neigh and, without slowing down, smashed the tightly closed gate open.
The heavy gate bolt, cut in two, was sent flying and landed in front of the soldiers defending behind the gate. This sudden turn of events left them momentarily stunned. Had their sturdy castle gate just been breached?
The knights behind Chen Mo followed him into the castle, and the soldiers in their path were quickly overwhelmed by the charging knights before they could even react.
After a brief bout of shouting and screaming, the knights, without losing momentum, charged through the gate and into the castle, leaving behind a chaotic mess of trampled bodies.
Count Warren quickly turned and rushed to the inner wall, looking down at the heavy armored knights who had breached the gate. He was in utter disbelief.
He couldn't fathom how they had broken through the gate. Judging by their speed, it seemed as if the gate hadn't hindered them at all. Could someone have betrayed him and left the gate open?
Count Warren turned to the captain beside him with a stern look, only to find the captain equally shocked as he looked at the knights below, showing no signs of prior knowledge.
Setting aside his doubts, Count Warren looked at the knights inside the walls, who were now turning their horses and charging towards the walls. His expression grew serious and puzzled. What were these knights planning to do?
Using cavalry to attack a castle was one thing, but did they intend to scale the walls as well?
Under Count Warren's incredulous gaze, over a hundred knights charged through the rain of arrows to the inner wall, dismounted, and raised their gleaming knightly swords, advancing up the steps towards the wall.
Count Warren was overjoyed. Were these foolish knights out of their minds?
On horseback, they could use their fully armored bodies to fend off swords, spears, and arrows, maneuvering their warhorses to slash and kill at will.
But once dismounted, the nearly invincible armor became a heavy and cumbersome burden, making them easy targets. Infantry could easily stab through the gaps in the armor, injuring or even killing the knights.
Therefore, knights generally did not wear full heavy armor during foot battles, only equipping chest armor.
Seeing this powerful knight regiment, which had breached the gate, foolishly dismounting to fight on foot and attacking the wall from below, Count Warren's mood took a turn for the better. The hope of victory, which had seemed lost, was rekindled.
Without any command, the archers on the wall relentlessly shot arrows at the advancing heavy armored knights. Although all were blocked by their armor and shields, the archers continued to shoot persistently.
Spear-wielding soldiers quickly gathered at the stairs leading up the wall, forming layers of tight defense, ready for the arrival of the heavy armored knights.
However, no one noticed that these heavily armored knights, though slow in their steps, were not clumsy at all. Instead, they moved with remarkable agility.
It wasn't until the two sides clashed that Count Warren realized he was wrong.
These knights, after dismounting, did not lose any combat effectiveness. Instead, they were exceptionally agile, and their sword attacks were incredibly sharp.
The soldiers at the front had their spears cut down and were then slain by the charging knights. The confident defense was easily torn apart by these unbelievably powerful knights.
What followed was a one-sided massacre. Even Count Warren's own knights were no match for these silver-armored knights. Their swords broke against the knights' armor without causing any harm, while the knights' swords could pierce through their heavy armor and kill them.
The fierce battle quickly ended. After Count Warren was beheaded by Chen Mo, the remaining knights and soldiers surrendered, choosing to give up resistance.
Their lord was dead, and there was no need to continue fighting and die in vain.
With the death of the great lord Count Warren, his vast territory was taken over by Chen Mo. With his hundred-man heavy armored knight regiment, Chen Mo quickly became the new ruler of the region.
Without giving the surrounding vassal nobles time to react, Chen Mo briefly rested at Blackstone Castle before launching attacks on the surrounding territories.
Under Chen Mo's leadership, the heavy armored knight regiment launched continuous attacks, reclaiming the surrounding territory within half a month. Chen Mo officially became the lord of over two thousand square kilometers of land and tens of thousands of subjects.
Chen Mo's expansion did not stop there. After quickly consolidating this large territory, he launched new campaigns.
A year later, Chen Mo had become the most powerful lord within hundreds of kilometers, ruling vast lands and commanding an invincible heavy armored knight regiment.
As his territory expanded, Chen Mo gradually shifted his focus to eliminating werewolves, using the knight regiment more for protecting the territory.
The original hundred-man knight regiment had expanded to over five hundred, but most of them were not within the territory.
During this year, Chen Mo established trade caravans. Soap, glass, mirrors, and many other daily and luxury goods were sold across most of Europe under the protection of the powerful knight regiment, earning him a large amount of gold to support his military construction and territorial development, and continuing to expand to other places.
Although Chen Mo carried tons of gold in his space, he was not short of money. The trade caravans were actually his intelligence organization.
They set up shops in major cities, traveling between territories to gather intelligence for him.
Finally, a familiar name appeared in Chen Mo's sight.
Lord Victor!
