Chapter 60 - Chapter 60: The Missing Captain America

In fact, Chen Mo shouldn't have been so easily deceived.

However, at that moment, Chen Mo was entirely focused on swordsmanship, neglecting the overall situation and not expecting Strucker to use non-sword techniques. This showed that Chen Mo's combat experience, especially against skilled opponents, was still lacking.

Red Skull was first severely injured by an explosion and then killed by a long-distance throwing knife. Even his feigned death was discovered by the exceptionally cautious Chen Mo, leaving no suspense in the battle.

Huang Quan and Han Qing had excellent martial arts skills, with strength and speed comparable to Baron Strucker. However, their sparring was not a life-and-death struggle, and many techniques were not used. Chen Mo learned a lot of combat techniques but gained limited experience in life-and-death battles.

Other battles were completely one-sided massacres, which only fueled Chen Mo's arrogance and did not help his current combat situation.

Watching Baron Strucker escape through the door, Chen Mo did not pursue him.

If he wanted to, he could have easily killed Strucker with a throwing knife before he reached the door. However, Chen Mo's purpose this time was to help Steve rescue the prisoners.

He wasn't in a hurry to kill Baron Strucker, or rather, it wasn't the right time. Chen Mo still needed him to continue leading the rebellious Hydra base and play his part in the plan.

Retracting his gaze from the control room door, Chen Mo turned to the monitor screen. Steve had already led the prisoners through the Hydra soldiers' blockade, using a tank to break down a section of the wall and escape the base.

The base's self-destruct countdown on the control panel had less than three minutes remaining.

The goal of rescuing the prisoners was achieved, and Chen Mo had learned a lot from his encounter with Baron Strucker. It was time to leave.

Although the self-destruct device would only detonate pre-planted explosives and not directly trigger the super bombs stored in the factory, there was no telling if the powerful super bombs would detonate in the ensuing explosion.

Given the power of these super bombs, if they all exploded, no one within several kilometers would survive.

Confirming that Steve and the others had safely evacuated, Chen Mo didn't linger. He fully unleashed his strength and leaped from the control room railing.

Using the railings below to break his fall, he quickly reached the ground.

The control room was at the top of the base, dozens of meters high. Unlike jumping from the plane, which was only a dozen meters high, Chen Mo's current physical condition required several breaks to cushion the fall.

Upon reaching the ground, Chen Mo didn't stop and quickly rushed out of the base building. The Hydra soldiers he encountered on the way didn't have time to react before he disappeared around the corner.

Once outside the base building, Chen Mo ran at full speed towards the direction Steve and the others had taken.

The outer Hydra soldiers had just suffered a fierce surprise attack led by Steve and the captured Allied soldiers, resulting in heavy losses. They were on high alert.

Chen Mo's sudden appearance was quickly noticed by the surrounding Hydra soldiers, who immediately opened fire. Relying on his alloy armor's defense, Chen Mo ignored the attacks and ran through the gap Steve and the others had created, escaping the Hydra base.

Despite his incredible speed, making it difficult to aim at him, many bullets still hit him, tearing his already damaged combat suit to shreds and revealing the black alloy armor underneath.

Covered in hard armor, Chen Mo looked like a powerful humanoid steel machine. His superhuman speed and bulletproof defense made the Hydra soldiers wonder if they were fighting a non-human entity.

Hesitating, their firepower faltered, and by the time they recovered, Chen Mo had already disappeared into the night.

At the Allied front-line camp in Italy, Chen Mo and Steve had been gone for three days.

Since they were behind enemy lines, they couldn't communicate, so to the outside world, they had been missing for three days.

The famous Captain America, who was supposed to continue his morale-boosting tour of the front-line camps, was missing. It was rumored that he had gone deep behind enemy lines to rescue prisoners.

This infuriated Senator Brandt, who valued Steve's propaganda value highly. He pressured Colonel Phillips to rescue Steve at all costs.

Colonel Phillips, however, remained calm in the face of the enraged Senator Brandt.

He had no concerns about Steve's safety.

He knew Chen Mo's strength well, and the previous success in destroying Hydra bases was proof. He had no doubts about the success of their mission.

So, despite Senator Brandt's constant pressure, Colonel Phillips only sent a few reconnaissance planes for investigation, taking no further action.

He had complete confidence in Chen Mo.

Just moments ago, Colonel Phillips received another call from Senator Brandt, who threatened to shut down the Strategic Scientific Reserve if anything happened to Steve.

Senators wield significant power and influence in the United States, and Senator Brandt, a senior member, had considerable sway in Congress. His threat to shut down the Strategic Scientific Reserve was not an empty one.

Steve was crucial to him, a key asset for accumulating political capital and running for president. If anything happened to Steve under Colonel Phillips' watch, he wouldn't let it go.

Of course, the Strategic Scientific Reserve wasn't easily dismantled. Its hidden strength and the outstanding achievements in destroying multiple Hydra bases and aiding the Allies couldn't be easily erased.

Moreover, the Strategic Scientific Reserve was a joint effort of the Allied nations, primarily led by the United States. Senator Brandt would have to pay a high price to shut it down.

Colonel Phillips was unfazed by the threat. After hanging up, he shrugged at Agent Carter sitting at his desk.

"He said if we don't find Steve soon, he'll shut us down."

With a playful look, the colonel glanced at Carter.

"It seems our big star is quite an important figure."
