The training for "Paper Arts" (Kami-e) posed a significant challenge for Arashi.
He seemed naturally less attuned to skills involving sensory perception.
While he had already mastered the other five techniques of the Rokushiki, even advancing techniques like Soru (Shave), Tekkai (Iron Body), and Shigan (Finger Gun) to Level 2 through sheer practice, he still needed help to grasp
"Arashi, you don't need to master all of the Rokushiki techniques," Kuzan suggested. "It's enough to specialize in just one or two of them."
As a result of Arashi's requests, the two frequently sparred, with Kuzan helping Arashi find inspiration for the techniques.
"In the future, if you perform well, you might have the chance to obtain a Devil Fruit, which could also boost your strength," Kuzan added.
Arashi shook his head in response. "The body is the foundation of true strength."
"The power of a Devil Fruit can be helpful, but it shouldn't be relied on too much."
"You're right," Kuzan nodded with a smile. The two of them continued to clash rapidly, their movements producing continuous clashing sounds.
Arashi had become quite proficient in Tekkai, Shigan, and Soru.
Without any external enhancements, his progress to Level 2 was due to his dedicated training.
By noon, after lunch, Garp began providing Arashi with targeted training guidance.
"Not bad. You have a natural talent for martial arts. Next, it's time to start training in Armament Haki and Observation Haki.
Garp was consistently pleased with Arashi's progress.
Mastering five of the Rokushiki techniques in such a short time was an achievement that surpassed many so-called prodigies.
"Once you master Kami-e, I'll teach you something beyond the Rokushiki — 'Life Return' (Seimei Kikan)!" Garp said with a smile.
Arashi's eyes lit up at the mention of Life Return. This highly useful skill allows complete control over one's body and the ability to recover quickly through nutrition after sustaining injuries.
Garp then began Arashi's intensive Kami-e training. However, things quickly took a turn.
"How can you be so stupid? No! That's not how you do it!"
"Relax! Withdraw all your strength! Is this how you use Kami-e, you fool?"
Garp's unfiltered shouting echoed across the warship, causing everyone to turn their heads.
Arashi clutched his head, wincing in pain. He realized that he truly lacked any talent for this final Rokushiki technique.
No matter how much guidance Garp provided, he couldn't grasp it.
"No matter how strong your body is, if you can't control it or use your strength with precision, what's the point?"
Garp's harsh scolding left Arashi trembling. His training sessions were strict, and the discipline made Arashi anxious.
"Do 3,000 push-ups!"
"3,000 squats!"
"Swing your sword 10,000 times!"
"Get your head straight!" Garp ordered, his voice booming.
Arashi pursed his lips and complied, taking a glance to the side.
He noticed that Kuzan, Sakazuki, and the others had quietly distanced themselves, not wanting to get involved.
Kuzan even pretended to whistle innocently when he noticed Arashi looking at him.
Days passed, but the warship hadn't caught a glimpse of Roger's crew.
Despite this, Garp seemed extremely confident, directing Bogart with certainty, convinced they would eventually encounter them.
During this time, Arashi faced his greatest setbacks, leading him to doubt himself seriously.
No matter how hard he tried, Kami-e remained elusive, and every day, Garp's scolding rained down on him like a storm.
"You've hit a talent barrier; everyone has something they're better at," Kuzan quietly said to him one day.
"It's clear that Kami-e just isn't your thing." Arashi gritted his teeth and, without hesitation, punched Kuzan in the head.
"Ow!" Kuzan winced, not expecting Arashi's fist to be as hard as Garp's.
"I'll master it!" Arashi declared.
During this period, they also encountered pirates and engaged in battles.
Being the carefree and reckless person, Garp loved nothing more than standing on the ship and letting the recruits fight on their own, using life-and-death battles to toughen them up.
After the battle, Arashi showed significant improvement in mentality and combat experience, quickly catching up to the level of Kuzan, Sakazuki, and the others.
This pleased him as he realized that he could grow rapidly through combat. Facing powerful enemies brought him immense gains.
"A bounty of 580 million... just as expected, he's tough," Arashi sighed.
"And with the other crew members, the total bounty reaches 1.5 billion."
He continued, "I took down the entire pirate crew alone."
He also gained system points from the battle.
After maxing out his Conqueror's Haki, the second thing he chose to upgrade was the Rokushiki technique Soru.
In his opinion, if Soru were maxed out, its terrifying speed might rival teleportation.
Combined with a punch infused with Conqueror's Haki, he believed he could instantly defeat any opponent.
It was almost a surefire combination.
"Arashi, keep training!" Garp's booming voice interrupted his thoughts.
Arashi's expression shifted slightly, and a hint of resignation appeared in his eyes.
He still struggled with Kami-e and couldn't grasp any of the techniques. He felt that he might be stuck at this stage for a while.
According to Garp, if he couldn't master all the Rokushiki techniques, he wouldn't teach him Life Return.
As for observation and Armament Haki, those were out of the question until then.
Before they knew it, nearly ten days had passed since the Battle of Edd War.
That afternoon, the lookout officer suddenly blew the alert whistle. "Pirate ship spotted ahead!"
The ship was still too far away to see the emblem on the flag, but Garp began to laugh, "Hahahaha!"
"Bogart, do you see that?" Garp asked.
"It's Roger's ship!" Garp declared with a grin. Bogart was momentarily stunned.
He raised his binoculars and looked ahead but could only see a tiny black dot.
He couldn't understand how Garp could identify the ship from such a distance.
"It's the mutual understanding between powerful individuals!" Garp laughed.
"I'm sure he knows I'm here too!" The crew, hearing this, all turned their eyes forward.
"Is it Roger?" Kuzan asked, excitedly rushing over and throwing his arm around Arashi.
"Wow, are we really about to face one of the world's three legendary pirates?"
Arashi glanced at Kuzan and smirked. This guy did have blind faith in Garp.
As the two ships drew closer, the lookout officer announced the ship's identity in a shocked voice.
"It's the Oro Jackson! The ship belongs to one of the three great pirates, the Roger Pirates!"
Garp laughed heartily, clashing his fists together. "The exciting moment has arrived! Everyone, prepare for battle! We're going to capture Roger!"
The entire crew obeyed in unison. Arashi silently took the marine sword Bogart handed him, strapped it to his waist, and fixed his gaze forward.
A moment later, the ship came into view.
"Garp! You don't make things easy for me! Running into you again in this vast ocean!"
A loud laugh echoed from the opposing ship, stirring the sea breeze.
Arashi focused his gaze. He saw a man with a captain's hat, a confident smile spread across his face.
It was Gol D. Roger, the man who would one day become the Pirate King.
