Talk of Ryu's passionate speech from the previous class was circulating among the students, and it was making the air buzz.
"Have you heard Ryu's remarks from the previous class?" With admiration, one student whispered.
Another nodded enthusiastically and said, "Yeah, I never thought about medical ninjutsu that way before, and his thoughts on saving lives and being remembered by those lives are still giving me the goosebumps."
The whispers were audible to Ryu, who was seated near the back of the classroom. A wave of embarrassment and pride passed over him. He was happy that his remarks had an impact on his classmates, even though he had not planned to create such a stir. 'Maybe this is the first step towards changing how we view medical ninjutsu,' he thought, a small smile playing on his lips.
As the chatter died down, a new instructor entered the room. She was a tall woman with an air of quiet confidence, her long black hair tied back in a neat bun. Large, round glasses perched on the bridge of her nose, giving her a scholarly appearance that commanded respect. Her steps were measured and graceful as she made her way to the front of the class, her dark eyes scanning the room with keen interest.
"Good morning, class," she greeted, her voice clear and resonant. "My name is Akane Abe, and I will be your instructor for Basics of Ninjutsu and totay will be covering the art of hand seals."
Ryu felt a thrill of anticipation run through him. 'This is it,' he thought, 'the beginning of our journey to becoming true shinobi.'.
Hand seals were the foundation of ninjutsu, the key to unlocking the incredible powers that made shinobi legendary.
Akane's gaze swept across the room, taking in the mix of eager and apprehensive faces. "I understand that many of you have already begun learning ninjutsu and hand seals from your respective clans," she acknowledged. "However, in this class, we will delve deeper into the fundamentals and intricacies that govern these techniques."
Her words sparked a flurry of whispers among the students from prominent clans. Saya Uchiha, seated next to Ryu, straightened her back, a look of pride crossing her face. Ryu glanced at her, wondering what kind of training she had already received from her clan.
"Before we begin," Akane continued, her tone becoming more serious, "I want to make it clear that it's too early for you to perform actual ninjutsu. Our focus will be on learning and understanding all the associated hand seals. This knowledge will form the foundation for your ninjutsu training in the next grade."
A chorus of disappointed groans filled the air. Akane pressed on, undeterred. "I know you're all eager to start throwing fireballs and summoning water dragons," she said with a knowing smile, "but mastery of the basics is crucial. Without a solid foundation, even the most powerful jutsu will crumble."
"Hand seals are not merely gestures," she explained, her voice taking on a more serious tone. "They are the physical manifestation of our chakra's intent. Some are associated with elemental forces, while others are linked to the Yin and Yang aspects of chakra."
Ryu's eyes widened with interest. He had heard of Yin and Yang chakra before, but the concept had always seemed abstract and elusive. 'Could this be the key to understanding the deeper nature of chakra?' he wondered, his mind racing with possibilities. He couldn't help but draw parallels to his past life's medical studies. 'Hand seals are like the language of chakra, just as chemical formulas were the language of medicine.'
Akane began to demonstrate, her hands moving in a blur of precise movements. "The hand seals imprint the movement and manipulation of chakra in our bodies, creating a predefined effect. When we associate these seals with specific outcomes during practice, they become ingrained in our subconscious. Some are already ingrained in our chakras. We cannot be certain, but some experts speculated that it might be because generations of people have used these seals for a specific purpose."
The class watched in awe as Akane's hands flowed from one seal to another, her movements so fluid they seemed almost dance-like.
"This is why a jutsu that might take minutes to perform without seals can be invoked almost instantly with the proper hand signs," Akane continued. "With enough practice and expertise, a shinobi can even perform jutsu with fewer seals, or in exceptional cases, no seals at all."
Saya Uchiha raised her hand. "Sensei," she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity, "does that mean we could perform any jutsu just by learning the right hand seals?"
Akane smiled, appreciating the question. "An excellent question, Saya. The answer, however, is no. Even if I were to teach you the seals for an advanced jutsu, you wouldn't be able to perform it yet. Executing a jutsu requires not only the correct seals but also proper chakra control, sufficient chakra reserves, and often, a specific elemental affinity."
To demonstrate her point, Akane performed a quick series of hand seals. A small flame appeared in her palm, dancing in the air before dissipating. The class gasped in awe, their eyes wide with wonder.
"Wow," Ryu breathed, his heart racing with excitement. He had seen jutsu performed before, but never this close, never with such a clear view of the hand seals that preceded it.
"This is a simple fire release technique," Akane explained. "But even if I taught you these exact seals, none of you could replicate it yet. You haven't trained your chakra affinities, associated the seals with the proper intent, or developed the necessary chakra control."
Ryu's mind raced with the implications. He had always assumed that knowing the right hand seals was the key to performing any jutsu. This new understanding opened up a whole new dimension to his perception of ninjutsu. 'There's so much more to learn,' he thought, a mix of excitement and trepidation washing over him.
"Moreover," Akane continued, her voice taking on a more serious tone, "even for those of you who have learned some hand signs from your clans, mastering high-level techniques is a long and challenging process. An A-rank jutsu, for instance, requires A-rank chakra control and A-rank chakra reserves as prerequisites. Even with those, it would take months of dedicated training to perform such a jutsu effectively in combat."
The class fell silent, absorbing the weight of this information. The path to becoming a skilled shinobi suddenly seemed longer and more complex than many had imagined. Ryu felt a mix of emotions swirling within him—determination, excitement, and a touch of anxiety.
'This is going to be harder than I thought,' Ryu mused, 'but that just makes it more worthwhile. If I'm going to become a medical ninja who can truly make a difference, I need to master this.'
Sensing the shift in mood, Akane's expression softened. "But don't be discouraged," she said warmly. "Every great shinobi started exactly where you are now. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and today, we take that step together."
Her words seemed to lift the spirits of the class. Ryu felt a renewed sense of determination wash over him. He straightened in his seat, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
With renewed enthusiasm, Akane began to guide the class through the basic hand seals. "Let's start with the simplest seal - the Ram seal," she instructed, demonstrating the hand position. "This seal is often used to mold chakra and focus one's energy."
Ryu carefully formed the seal with his hands, feeling a subtle shift in his chakra as he did so. 'Is this what she meant by associating seals with intent?' he wondered, trying to memorise the sensation.
As the lesson progressed, Ryu found himself completely engrossed. The intricacies of each seal, the way they flowed into one another, the subtle differences that could change the entire nature of a jutsu—it was all fascinating.
"Remember," Akane said as she demonstrated a particularly complex sequence, "the speed and precision of your hand seals can mean the difference between success and failure in a critical moment. Practice until these movements become as natural as breathing."
Ryu nodded, his brow furrowed in concentration as he tried to keep up with the increasingly complex combinations.
Before they knew it, the bell rang, signalling the end of the class. As the students began to pack up their things, chattering excitedly about what they had learned, Akane called out, "Remember, practice these seals daily. Familiarity and muscle memory are key to mastering hand seals."
As Ryu gathered his things, he overheard snippets of conversation around him.
"That was incredible!" one student exclaimed. "I can't wait to try these out at home."
"I never realised how complex hand seals could be," another mused. "It's going to take a lot of practice to get them right."
In the Hokage's office, Instructor Tanaka stood before the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, recounting the events of the previous day's class and Ryu's impassioned speech about medical ninjutsu.
"I must say, Lord Hokage," Tanaka concluded, "I've rarely seen such maturity and determination in one so young. Ryu Hamura's perspective on the value of medical ninjutsu was... enlightening."
Hiruzen nodded thoughtfully, puffing on his pipe. "Indeed, Tanaka. Young Ryu has wisdom beyond his years. His desire to save lives rather than take them is admirable."
