The next day Katelen is awoken by Beau and Grizz, letting her know they need outside. As she's standing on the porch still in her pajamas watching her dogs sniff around, one of her neighbors, a man in his early 40s walked over and said "Hi, my name is Jeffrey", she responded " I'm Katelen, these are my dogs Beau and Grizz", Jeffrey said " Well, its nice to meet you Katelen, I'm on way to work, just wanted to introduce myself". After eating breakfast, feeding her dogs, and freshing up, she hopped on a zoom call with her boss. Her boss was a fairly attractive man in his late 30s named Adam Roberts. Adam said "Katelen, your story hit the front papers and the detectives are reopening the case", Katelen replied " That's great", Katelen had wrote an article about a cold case from 1997 of a 13 year old named Jonathan Lewis who had went missing on Halloween night and was found on November 1, he had been assaulted and stabbed 13 times, then dumped in a ditch, the case went cold after no suspects were found and tips and evidence the police had went nowhere. As they continued to talk Adam a shadow walk past Katelen's open bedroom doorway, he asked "Is someone there with you?", Katelen responded confused " No, its just me and the dogs, why?" Adam responded "I thought I saw someone walk past your doorway", after noticing Katelen's expression he said " My eyes are probably playing tricks on me, I was just prescribed some contacts so I guess my eyes need adjusting". After ending the zoom call, Katelen couldn't shake off what Adam said about seeing a shadow, she thought to herself "First the kitchen light was on after I knew I turned it off, then the dogs reacted to something outside, then my bowl moved by itself, then me and the dogs heard footsteps in the hall, now Adam saw something", at first she thought she was crazy but knew she wasn't cause her dogs and Adam reacted to something, she decided to not to think about ghosts, cause she or anyone in her family never had any paranormal experiences, she decided to distract herself by recording a episode for her podcast.
Later that day, Katelen concluded that leaving the house might serve as a distraction from the peculiar occurrences she had been experiencing. Consequently, she arranged to meet Travis for lunch at a dog-friendly outdoor café, accompanied by her two dogs. Upon arrival, she noticed Travis was accompanied by a young boy. "I hope you don't mind if my son joins us," he remarked. Katelen responded warmly, "I don't mind at all." Travis then introduced the boy, "This is my 5-year-old son, Tate." Katelen bent down to Tate's level, extended her hand, and said, "Hi, Tate, it's nice to meet you." Shyly, Tate shook her hand and inquired, "What are the doggies' names?" Katelen introduced the dogs, "The one with floppy ears is Beau, and the one with pointy ears is Grizz." Tate extended his hand to them, laughing as Beau and Grizz licked it. Katelen couldn't help but notice the striking resemblance between Tate and Travis. They chose a table situated in a corner of the outdoor patio. As they awaited their food, Travis explained, "His mother, my estranged ex, asked me to watch him for a few hours at the last minute while she showed a house. She's a realtor and not very good at letting me know in advance." Katelen assured him, "It's no problem." Spending time with Travis and Tate effectively diverted her mind from the unsettling experiences at her home. Katelen then asked Travis, "So what do you do for a living?" Travis replied, "Oh, I've been so busy I forgot to tell you. I work at a mechanic shop, doing oil changes and tire replacements. It's part-time, five days a week, from 10 AM to 2 PM. My boss offered me an easy schedule after learning I have a young son. So, I get my son one week every month or whenever my ex can't find a babysitter. My job isn't as exciting as yours, but it pays the bills and puts food on the table." After lunch, Katelen and her dogs returned home. As she exited her car, Jeffrey approached her, asking, "How long have you been out?" Katelen replied, "Two and a half hours." Jeffrey then queried, "So that wasn't you I saw on your porch an hour earlier?" Katelen responded, "No." Jeffrey suggested, "You know, why don't I just check the house?" While Katelen stayed outside with Beau and Grizz, Jeffrey, armed with his pistol and accompanied by his Rottweiler, Tex, conducted a thorough search of the house. Upon finding nothing, Jeffrey returned and said, "It was probably the stress from me working too much; I must have been seeing things. I know it wasn't someone just lost because there was no car parked out front, and for someone to walk out here, they would have to have a death wish since this road isn't safe for walking. I figured your car must have been in the shop." As Jeffrey and Tex returned to his house, Katelen felt uneasy about entering her own home. She thought to herself, "There is no way Adam and Jeffrey both hallucinated seeing someone. It's progressed from things turning on after being turned off, objects moving, the dogs sensing something, and hearing footsteps to now both Adam and Jeffrey seeing something." Despite this, she was reluctant to believe it was ghosts. As the rest of the day passed, Katelen cuddled with Beau and Grizz on the couch, watching dog movies, only getting up for bathroom breaks and to cook dinner. When bedtime arrived, she went to her room with her dogs, propped a chair under the doorknob, and fell asleep, allowing Beau and Grizz on her bed for comfort, even though she usually did not permit them to sleep there.
