Chapter 78 - Interlude - Why did you have to see?

Fuwa sat up abruptly, her body drenched in sweat, her heart hammering so hard she thought it might burst from her chest. The sensation of wanting to scream 'DON'T TOUCH ME!' lingered in her throat, but no sound had come out. She could still feel it, that suffocating fear, the twisted cruelty, the shadows that had dragged Raven away in that nightmare of a memory.

She was trembling, her hands gripping the blanket tightly as if trying to ground herself in the present, but the horror of what she'd seen clung to her like a dark fog. It was slipping away now, as dreams often do upon waking, but the feeling... the dread, the disgust... remained, gnawing at her insides. At the moment it was so strong, that it made her pass out. She wondered where she was...

'What the hell?' Thought Fuwa touching her face just to notice she was crying, her tears just won't stop 'Why?' She was sure she had witnessed the most terrible thing in her entire life but she couldn't remember what it was. Everything she had dreamed was so real 'Why?' She asked herself again 'What the hell was that?' She thought, her mind trying to make sense of the fragments still lingering in her memory. Whatever it was, it felt real. Too real. And even though the details were fading fast, Fuwa was left with a deep, unsettling truth.

Then for a flash moment, she remembered and wanted to puke again, as it came it left her mind, like a buried trauma. Raven had lived through something horrible... something no one should ever have to endure. And Fuwa had glimpsed it.

She glanced over at Raven, still lying beside her, she was in the bed too but since the bed was big enough she was somewhat away. The cat girl was sound asleep, curled up with her arms tucked under her head, her tail flicking lazily even in her sleep. Her expression was peaceful, almost goofy, a stark contrast to the torment Fuwa had just witnessed in the dream. It made her heart ache, seeing Raven like this... so carefree, so at ease...

She hugged her knees to her chest, there was nothing she could do, what she had witnessed was something of the past, tears wouldn't budge, still falling freely down her face without a stop, feeling a strange mixture of emotions... rage, sorrow, and an overwhelming need to protect Raven. But at the same time, a cold shiver ran down her spine, as if the nightmare was still clinging to her.

After a few moments, Fuwa gently lay back down, trying not to disturb Raven. She stared at the ceiling, her mind still racing, but exhaustion was beginning to creep back in. The night was quiet, save for the soft sound of Raven's breathing beside her. But as she drifted back into a light, restless sleep, maybe it was the mercy of her mind to help her cope with what she had seen, and even if it wasn't a resting state, at least she was deeply into her own unconsciousness again.

After Fuwa began to sleep again, Raven stopped pretending to be asleep and looked at her, even sleeping, tears wouldn't stop. She felt vulnerable, but she now was certain, she had seen something... but exactly what?

"Fuwa you fool" Raven said "Why did you have to see?"
