Chapter 61 - A sandy graveyard

As Raven and Fuwa were warped along with the rest of the group, they could instantly feel the heat stroke hitting them hard, the place was god damn hot, and there was sand everywhere, they were inside some kind of ruins, the walls were made of white stone, some paintings were itched into the walls... paintings that depicted the grandiose of this place on ancient times, mighty figures reining supreme over mortals. Raven looked around with curiosity.

'So this is the seventh floor?' She wondered 'So we have to stick to th...'

"Argos block!" Shouted Arfes, even though Argos was already on his way to the front with his shield raised"

"『Mighty Bulkward』!" He said, his body glowing with green energy as a protective aura extended around the group "Let them come!"

And from the other end of the sandy tunnel, a massive spray of acid impacted the defensive barrier, spikes were engraved on the acid too impacting heavily against the shield. The warrior though wasn't moved by this, it was a challenge he had already overcome.

[Undead Assault Battery lvl 3]

After the attack, the warning popped in front of the eyes of Raven, it came after the attack, a party not properly prepared would have been received by a wonderful surprise. It may even prove lethal if it impacts some of the most squishy members.

"『Aqua Shield』" Raven had extended her hand and her shield protected the warrior who looked amazed.

"Thanks cat!" He said as he begun to charge towards the enemy, the group following closer behind. As they drew closer Raven could hear the clanking of the skeletons, they were reloading some kind of artifact and fired again, but this time the acid and spikes were repelled by her shield as the warrior keep charging forward.

As Raven maintained the shimmering blue shield in front of the group, she felt the pressure from the assault of acid and spikes. Her ears twitched with every clank and scrape from the undead, her instincts sharpening. The Undead Assault Battery was a vicious enemy, one that not only relied on sheer numbers but deadly ranged attacks, using machinery that these skeletal warriors had somehow mastered, maybe in life, they were part of some kind of army.

Argos, with his Mighty Bulwark still active, charged headlong into the wave of skeletons, his shield bashing one of the skeletal operators aside as it attempted to reload its acid-spewing weapon. The undead soldier crumbled into pieces under the force, its bones scattering across the sand. With a quick motion of his sword, Arfes slashed the other Skeleton that operated the machine, thus, the first enemy of the floor was defeated.

"Good job" Said Mary looking at Raven with a little spark of what could be considered respect.

In front of them, there seemed to be a sequence of tunnels that had been partially crumbled, some even revealed the hot sand over the desert on top, while others descended into the darkness. Raven believed that they should proceed over the tunnel that went down, but before she could even move the girl carrying the backpacks left them into the ground and took from inside a small torch, which she lit with ease. Then she walked over to that stairway and lowered the torch, it instantly went off.

"This way is no good..." She said.

Raven raised an eyebrow as the torch was extinguished so quickly, the darkness ahead swallowing the light with an eerie finality. Fuwa tilted her head, curiosity piqued as she glanced at the backpack girl, Yineri.

"What do you mean, 'no good?'" Raven asked, her tone sharp but more out of caution than impatience. Her tail flicked slightly, betraying her unease.

Yineri, shy as always, shifted nervously before answering. "These kinds of tunnels... they're traps. The air down there is... cursed or poisoned. I-it's a common trick in ancient ruins like this. The torch going out so fast means we won't survive for long if we go that way"

Then the girl picked some metal balls from her backpack and threw them into the tunnel that looked collapsed in front of them, they traveled slowly but surely across the sand until... a loud explosion occurred and that room was filled with green gas that began to quickly exit through the broken roof.

"T-traps deactivated...boss" She said looking fearfully at Arfes.

Fuwa looked at the shy girl with respect, she may be the lowest level here but she pulled her own weight, once the weird smoke dissipated the group began to move across the only path available, which led to an open room, half-collapsed by the sand. Two enormous statues of about four meters tall were standing at both sides of a gateway.

"『Detect Danger』" Chanted Yineri again, her eyes with a small glow.

"Both statues are dormant enemies" She said after analyzing the room.

Both colossi looked like ancient constructs, they were intimidating and looked as if they were made out of sand blocks, with golden ornaments on their bodies. The enemies were imposing, but at least they no longer counted with the surprise element at their disposal. Eisir searched with his hands one of his arrows in particular, it seemed like he could differentiate which one he wanted depending on the type of feather they had on it.

"I will use an explosive arrow on one" The elf said as he selected a very specific arrow that had a small orange sphere at the tip "Mary you can kill it off"

"Of course" She said grabbing a book hat hanged on her waist, it was filled with magical runes.

For Raven it was a strange sight, they looked so coordinated, they must have been together at least some months to have this kind of coordination, they weren't novices, but then again they weren't the elite group of this clan, after all, she knew that their leaders must be many floors above them. Fuwa looked at them with sparks on her eyes, she was looking at the group working together as a team, then looking back at Raven as if she was trying to tell her that they were cool.

"That would deal with one" Said the leader, we will charge at the last one, don't use more explosive arrows after that one, nor magical spells, we will bring down the second one using a combined attack of physical hits"

"Ready?" Exclaimed the warrior with a big grin, he was ready to engage in battle once again.

"Go!" Answered the leader grabbing his sword.

Once they entered the room both colossi activated slowly, their gemstone eyes glowing as if they have awoken from an ancient slumber, and by their wake, a big sandstorm activated... maybe an aura kind of spell, the sand hitting hard the team, difficulting visibility too. Both enemies were slow, but it was easy to see how heavy they were, a hit from those wouldn't be something to laugh at.

'This seems more like an adventure' Thought Raven, but then again she spat to the ground, tons of sand had entered her mouth, she already hated this place 'I really hate these undead fields' She thought as she was ready to recast a barrier or healing spell in case it would be needed.

As both imposing enemies prepared themselves for the uninvited guests, the challenging party stepped up to the challenge, it was the first time for Raven and Fuwa faced bigger monsters, they didn't resemble anything they had faced before.

'They are way bigger than the hydra from back then' Thought Raven 'Let's do this'

And thus the battle began.
