Chapter 50 - Interlude - Tombstone

In a place faraway from the dungeon, so so faraway it would be impossible to visit, even with all the money in the world. Rain poured down on the solitary hill over the graveyard, but there was only a solitary tombstone over the hill, even if there wasn't anyone buried under it, it was a monument, a memory for the many. It was a way to celebrate their life, their unconcluded life, a place for all the families and friends to remember them, to remember all of those who were abducted in a brilliant flash of light, so radiant, but leaving families destroyed behind, leaving friends and lovers brokenhearted.

Soon, the stillness of the place was broken by a group of people who had arrived to pay respects. Many men wearing suits and dark glasses carried large clusters of flowers, mantaining stoic expressions as they awaited at the side of the road, as if they opened the way for some people to advance.

"We are almost there" Said an elderly man with a relaxed voice, even in his advanced age, he walked straight and was full of energy, he wasn't even curved and maintained a decent amount of muscle, but his steps were slow as he pushed gently a wheelchair "Just be patient"

On the wheelchair a woman with gorgeous blue hair, long and unruly sat with an inexpressive face, her eyes looked dull, without the spark of life, but she was alive, mostly thanks to her breathing you could say she was not a doll. Her mind was lost in deep thoughts, in places where people tend to not come back.

The people escorting them helped them on the last stretch of where the road was a little tricky for the wheelchair, but thanks to the help of the men it could reach the top, near the base of the monument, only then, the hollow husk of the woman smiled faintly.

"You like this place" Said the old man looking at the raining sky, he didn't mattered getting wet by the heavenly blessing of the rain, it helped him clean his soul and helped him stay focused. He looked at the stone monument, it had names all over it, it was not unique, actually most of the countries of the world had the same monument in many cities, and it had the same names all over it, the list grew every now and then.

'John Whiteray, Pedro Corrales, Carol Smith, Ryu Zhou...' The old man read the names, his eyes slowly and painfully looking all over the gravestone in memory of those who had vanished under mysterious circumstances, his heart began to sank as he got closer and closer 'Mei Li, Ito Aoto, Ali Ahmad...' He closed his eyes, it was like a spine on his heart 'Fumiko Warusawa'

One of the people near the old man received a call and he answered trying to be quiet, but it seemed urgent as he got near the man who was paying his respects placing a hand over the monument.

"Boss... I hate to interrupt, but the guild has been contacted another gate has opened near the central square" The man in charge of passing the message was clearly nervous about interrupting his boss, and the old man just nodded.

"So many things have changed, all those craps you liked so much now are the things of every day, sometimes I still think you are in your room after training, daydreaming of your books and comics you liked so much..." He said talking to the monument, he hated that he wasn't that free anymore, he had a lot of responsibilities to take care of, even if he loved to talk with her granddaughter "I will come back soon, your mother loves to visit too, Fuwa"
