Kevin cleared his throat with a subtle cough, the noise cutting through the heavy atmosphere left by Lucian's dramatic entrance. The room, still buzzing with whispers and curious glances in Lucian's direction, quieted down as students returned their attention to the front of the classroom. Kevin stood near the lectern, his hands gripping its edges firmly, as if preparing for what he knew was going to be a momentous moment.
"So," Kevin began, his voice carrying a tone of casual authority, "before we continue with today's lesson, I believe an introduction is in order. After all, we have a new student among us."
As soon as the word "new student" left Kevin's mouth, the eyes of every student in the room swiveled towards Lucian. They had already witnessed his bold, reckless stunt something that had imprinted itself in their minds inand now they were eager to learn more about this fearless newcomer.
Kevin took a moment to scan the room, his gaze lingering on the different expressions worn by his students. Some faces were filled with admiration, others with intrigue, and a few with lingering shock, especially those seated near the front. It was clear that Lucian had made quite the first impression, but Kevin was determined to pull the attention back to himself at least for now.
"Ah, right," he said, stepping closer to the center of the room, "I'm Kevin Eve, though most of you already know me. I won't bore you with my rank or past achievements they don't really matter. What does matter, however, is my passion."
Kevin's voice shifted, becoming livelier as his eyes gleamed with a barely restrained excitement. The transformation was almost palpable, like a mad scientist about to unveil a revolutionary discovery.
"I've dedicated my life to the study of magic. Not just the basics, not just what's practical or flashy, but the deep, theoretical, and often mind-bending aspects of it." His eyes gleamed now, a ferocity of intellect burning in them as he spoke. "Magic isn't about power, nor is it a shortcut for an easy life. No, it's about curiosity. It's about pushing the boundaries of what is possible, and letting your imagination run wild!"
Some students shifted in their seats, captivated by Kevin's words. He had a way of igniting excitement with just his enthusiasm alone, and now even those who initially seemed uninterested were leaning forward, hanging on his every word.
"For me, magic is everything," Kevin continued, his tone filled with conviction. "It's about discovering the unknown, chasing after knowledge that the world hasn't yet grasped. It's about seeing possibilities where others see limits!"
A shiver ran through the room. Kevin's passion was contagious, and the fire in his eyes had ignited a similar flame in many of his students. Lucian, however, sat stoically in his seat, not allowing himself to be swept up in the emotional tide. Still, even he had to admit that Kevin's dedication was impressive.
The professor's voice lowered slightly, becoming more personal. "And so, I welcome you, Lucian, to this class."
At the mention of his name, Lucian gave a small, indifferent nod, acknowledging the attention without fully engaging.
Kevin smiled, sensing the reserved nature of the boy, but pressing on regardless. "What you did earlier was... I'll admit, both insane and fascinating. I've been teaching for years, but never never inhave I seen a student so recklessly throw himself into the path of danger for... well, for what? A little excitement, maybe?"
The corner of Lucian's lip twitched at the comment, and some students stifled chuckles. Kevin's humor was cutting, but it was always in good spirit.
"However," Kevin's voice grew more serious, "you must know that such stunts are dangerous. Had things gone wrong had you faltered in your chant, even by a fraction you could have put your life on the line. Not even Arthur, with all his power, might have been able to save you in time. So, I ask you to show more restraint in the future. As one of my students, it's my duty to protect you even from yourself."
Lucian didn't respond verbally, but a faint smirk danced across his lips. It wasn't defiance, but rather an acknowledgment of Kevin's concern. Deep down, Lucian had always been a lone wolf, trusting no one but himself. Even now, the professor's words of caution seemed unnecessary, though the sincerity behind them was clear.
"But!" Kevin's tone shifted again, this time into one of admiration. "I must say, your chanting was flawless. In all my years of studying and teaching magic, I've rarely come across someone who could recite a forbidden spell with such precision. That level of mastery is no small feat."
Kevin's eyes sparkled, the admiration clear as day. "It was... honestly, one of the best performances I've ever witnessed."
A collective murmur spread through the classroom as the students exchanged glances. It hadn't even occurred to most of them just how perfect Lucian's chant had been, and now, with Kevin pointing it out, they realized the sheer level of skill involved. A newfound respect for Lucian began to take root, especially among those who had previously seen him as nothing more than a reckless show-off.
At the back of the room, a girl with silver hair narrowed her eyes, her attention zeroed in on Lucian. Her silver irises seemed to shimmer as she observed him more closely, her sharp mind working to decipher what she had overlooked.
"A vampire," she muttered under her breath, her voice so low that only she could hear it. Her gaze was intense as she continued to study him, the pieces slowly falling into place. "But... why couldn't I sense it before? His presence should have been impossible to ignore."
The girl's brow furrowed in confusion. "Is it concealment magic? Something even I can't detect?" Her lips curled into a faint, intrigued smile. "Interesting."
But as quickly as the smile appeared, it vanished, replaced by a thoughtful frown. "Still... it doesn't make sense. I should be able to feel his bloodline, the connection we share as vampires. Yet... there's nothing. No superiority, no dominance, no recognition." Her expression darkened as she pondered further, her mind running through various possibilities.
While the girl was lost in her thoughts, Lucian remained completely oblivious to her scrutiny. He hadn't noticed her gaze, nor did he sense her curiosity. His focus was elsewhere, detached from the growing web of intrigue forming around him.
Kevin, noticing the shift in atmosphere, cleared his throat again, trying to reel the attention back to the lesson. "Right, now where was I? Oh, yes! Magic!"
Some students chuckled as Kevin scratched his head in mock embarrassment, the earlier tension breaking with the professor's lighthearted tone. Even Lucian's lips twitched, a subtle reaction to Kevin's antics.
The rest of the class, for now, was content to let their curiosity about Lucian simmer, knowing full well that the mystery surrounding him would only grow as time passed.
