Chapter 21 - High Stakes

I know that you must be very confused and have many questions, but I'll try my best to answer them all, Endeavor began, his gaze meeting Aria's.

"Yes, indeed, there are many inconsistencies. A lot of this doesn't make sense," Endeavor nodded at the questioning look on Aria's face.

"Alright, I'll give you a bit of information I have on the boy, and tell you what I think might be going on," he said, finally breathing a sigh of relief. Things were slowly getting back on track, though the tension still hung in the air.

"This information might be incomplete or inaccurate, but it's all we have to go on right now. There's no other way."

Arthur and Aria nodded, their faces indicating their readiness for the explanation.

Endeavor shifted in his chair, making himself comfortable. "Let's start with what you already know from the file. This boy grew up in an orphanage, and he was left there just hours after his birth."

Aria and Arthur both looked like they wanted to interrupt, but Endeavor raised his hand, gesturing for them to stop.

"I know what you're thinking," he continued, anticipating their thoughts. "It sounds impossible that Queen Valentino would abandon her son at an orphanage right after his birth. It doesn't add up."

Aria and Arthur both nodded. They understood that Endeavor wouldn't have come all this way without solid proof that the boy was indeed related to Queen Valentino. Their confusion wasn't about the boy's identity they trusted Endeavor on that front. It was the situation surrounding his abandonment that puzzled them. Without more information, they couldn't make sense of it.

"I've gathered solid proof about his lineage. More importantly, the boy didn't even have a name before today."

Arthur's eyebrows shot up. "What do you mean he didn't have a name?

Endeavor sighed. "It was pure coincidence that I found out about this case. As you've probably read in the report, this boy had no known identity before the torture incident. After WMA officers apprehended him, they tried to register his details in our database, but nothing came up. It was as if he didn't exist."

Arthur and Aria leaned in, their attention sharp.

"When the officers questioned him about his identity, they used the Truthweave, as is standard practice in these situations," Endeavor said, pausing to let the gravity of his next words sink in.

"As you know, the Truthweave can reveal a person's true identity, their lineage. When they tested the boy, something extraordinary happened."

Aria and Arthur were familiar with how the Truthweave worked, but they listened intently. Both knew the significance of what was coming next.

"The moment the boy's blood touched the Truthweave, the paper transformed into blood itself. It floated in midair, and then, in letters made of the same blood, his true name appeared: 'Lucian Valentino.' The room darkened, and a scent of blood filled the air."

Arthur and Aria's hearts skipped a beat. This wasn't just some regular boy they now understood the enormity of the situation.

Arthur, more familiar with world phenomena as one of the Sorcerer Supremes, understood the implications of what Endeavor was saying. The event described matched the special occurrences that happen when someone crosses into the realm of a Sorcerer Supreme. It was a mark recognized by the world itself, and anyone of the same bloodline would carry that mark. His own experience after attaining the title had been different, but the eerie similarity could not be ignored.

Arthur sighed, already convinced.

Endeavor continued, his tone measured but serious. "There might be reasons behind Queen Valentino abandoning him. Or, perhaps, she doesn't even know he exists... though both seem impossible. I can't even begin to guess what led her to such a decision. Everyone here knows her power, her character. She doesn't make mistakes like this."

He hesitated, choosing his words carefully. "Even I feel... unworthy to speculate on her motives."

Arthur and Aria both nodded, fully agreeing. No one could fathom what would lead someone as powerful as Queen Valentino to abandon her child. The idea that she could have been pressured or threatened was absurd. She was never weak. A vampire's unique sensitivity to their kin made it impossible to believe she wouldn't have sensed her son.

"If she had truly wanted to abandon him, she could've at least ensured he had a good childhood. At her word

bleive me when i say this but if she had raised her finger and pointed toward you guys...you would had no choice but to rase him...no., any one of us would have adopted and raised him," Endeavor added.

Arthur and Aria exchanged glances. They couldn't deny the truth in his words. Even though they were among the strongest beings of light, they wouldn't dare challenge her.

"I can't say for certain what happened," Endeavor admitted. "But it's possible that she lost him somehow and wasn't able to find him later..." He trailed off, knowing how ridiculous it sounded.

Arthur and Aria couldn't help but snicker slightly at the absurdity.

Aria finally interrupted, her tone laced with disbelief. "Let's say, for a moment, she lost him. Do you realize how quickly she could find anyone in this world, let alone her own son?"

"I know, I know," Endeavor conceded. "I'm just being cautious. The stakes are too high for us to ignore even the smallest possibility."even if it only 1 in trillions possibility

His voice grew more serious. "We can't afford to dismiss any scenario, no matter how far-fetched. We're dealing with Queen Valentino, after all."

Arthur rubbed his temples, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on him.

Aria was deep in thought, calculating potential outcomes. They both understood that they had to tread carefully, given the monumental danger of their situation.

Endeavor leaned forward. "And now, I'll explain why I've come here. You've probably already figured it out by now, haven't you?"

Arthur groaned, running a hand over his face. "Yeah... I'm starting to see why you're so flustered."

Aria sighed, uncharacteristically breaking her usual calm. "If Queen Valentino ever finds out her son was tortured... I don't even want to think about the consequences. We all remember what she did 13 years ago, don't we?"

The room fell silent. The mere memory of that event made both Arthur and Aria shiver.

"You understand now, don't you?" Endeavor said. "If she learns her son was tortured by a nobody or whatever it were you she'll destroy humanity without hesitation."

Arthur and Aria gulped in unison. The image of Queen Valentino's wrath was a terrifying one.

"You need to do something, Arthur," Endeavor urged. "The boy may not have known who he was before, but now he does. We can't risk letting him roam free with that surname. It may not mean much to the public, but word will eventually get back to her."

Aria's gaze hardened as she met Endeavor's eyes. "You're not suggesting we kill him, are you?"

Arthur shot her a look. "No, Aria, we're not going down that path. That's not an option."

"Think, Arthur," Aria retorted coldly. "Would you rather kill one boy now or let him become a walking bomb that could wipe out humanity?"

Her tone was devoid of sympathy. She didn't flinch at the idea of killing the boy. It was clear that she was willing to do whatever was necessary to protect the greater good

Arthur didn't had words to refute but still tried to say something...he opened his mouth but no words came out

Endeavor cut them both off. "No, we can't do that. He's still a Valentino. If we lay a hand on him, the consequences would be even worse. Even if there's the faintest chance we can save humanity, we have to take it. But killing him? That would be the end for all of us."

Arthur and Aria fell silent. They knew Endeavor was right. They couldn't take such a reckless risk.

Endeavor clicked his fingers against the table, the sound sharp in the tense atmosphere. "That's why I came to you. I hoped you might have a solution."
