Corina's blue eyes gazed down at her dinner plate as she used the fork to move a few carrots around against the meat in the center. She had not taken a single bite of her food. There was no desire in her to eat a single thing. In fact, she felt she may become ill if she were to swallow anything.
Queen Amelia noticed Corina had not touched her meal. She sighed, placed her fork down, and folded her hands in her lap. "Corina, dear, would you like dessert? We've had a cake prepared in anticipation of your arrival."
"No," Corina whispered.
Amelia frowned and looked up to her father, King Richard. "Give the child time," he said. "Your son will grow used to his role."
Corina felt her heart sink from her grandfather's words. The reference to her as a son felt inappropriate. Although she knew in her heart that it was true, she still felt like a woman. There was no way she'd adjust to being Queen Amelia's youngest son. It wasn't right.
