Even Alexander's bed was uncomfortable as Corina lay on her side in a fetal position with a pillow against her abdomen. She held it tightly against her, hoping that the discomfort would quickly subside. She had never felt such a huge degree of physical discomfort during her life.
"I'm guessing you aren't up for dinner tonight?" Alexander questioned her while affectionately petting the back of her head.
"No," she whispered, then took a deep breath. "Go eat without me. I want to stay right here."
"Sorry. I didn't think to warn you about having too much in your stomach."
"It's not your fault," she replied.
Alexander felt reluctant to leave her there, but since guests were present in the palace, he didn't have the luxury of skipping the nightly meal. He planted a soft kiss on her forehead and then left the room. He knew she just needed to rest and allow the sweets to digest.
