The tent shifted as my father stepped through the entrance, his broad shoulders casting long shadows against the flickering firelight. I lay still on my bed, already dressed in my sleeping clothes, the blankets pulled up to my chin, trying to look as innocent as I could manage. He stood there for a moment, unmoving, his gaze sweeping over me, taking in my carefully composed expression before drifting around the room.
He wasn't just looking. He was searching.
