Ms. Brittany looked at me with an expression that depicted pity.
"Don't worry, you'll be able to deal with everything as it unfolds."
She assured.
I looked at her in curiosity and asked what she meant but she covered it up with a smile and told me to relax, that time would reveal all I needed to know.
Together we prepared dinner and later dispersed to our rooms, but I was so troubled as I pondered in suspense, what she said earlier.
The next few days in Edward's House was quite unbearable.
I lost count on the numbers of ladies who trooped into his house daily since I moved in, and how he introduced me with derogatory titles.
A chronic womanizer, that was the perfect description for Edward Anderson.
The D-Day of the wedding came.
All the while, I had tried to bring up the conversation of going to meet Edward's family members but he would ignore me.
I was more troubled at the thought of the kind of marriage I would have when I didn't even know my in-laws, and the issue his excessive sexual escapades with different ladies. I felt more like a piece of furniture in Edward's house because my opinions were not regarded and I was often disrespected.
Standing in front of the mirror, I wore a gloomy face. Just few days earlier I was excited that I had been relieved of a huge financial burden but now I knew that I would be paying with my emotional and mental health.
For other ladies, it would be the happiest day of their lives as they were getting married to a powerful billionaire but to me, I felt like I had allowed myself to be manipulated into a deathtrap against my will.
"Cheer up, Suzzy, today is your big day. You wouldn't want your audience to see you and think that you are making a huge mistake."
Amelia, my bestfriend said while adjusting the straps of my gown.
Wasn't it obvious enough that I was in a mess?
I looked blankly at the mirror as a tear slipped from my eyes.
I was getting married to a playboy.
I was more heartbroken because if I had a father that was responsible, he wouldn't have allowed me to go through this mess.
I wept because I knew that I was about to sign off my happiness, but couldn't help it.
"Your husband is ready."
Edward's bodyguard announced as soon as Amelia opened the door.
Wiping off my tears, I took hold of the hem of my gown and marched out.
*********
"Will you have this woman as your lawfully wedded wife, to live together after God's ordinance in the holy estate of Matrimony? Will you love her, comfort her, honor, and keep her, in sickness and in health; for richer and for poorer, forsaking all others, and keep yourself only to her, so long as you both shall live?"
The priest read aloud to Edward.
"I do"
Edward answered nonchalantly.
His reaction made me chuckle inwardly.
Will you have this man as your lawfully wedded husband, to live together after God's ordinance in the holy estate of Matrimony? Will you love him, comfort him, honor, and keep him, in sickness and in health; for richer and for poorer, forsaking all others, and keep yourself only to him, so long as you both shall live?
The priest read aloud, his gaze shifting to me.
Heaving sadly, I responded.
"I do"
"Those whom God has joined together, let no man put asunder. In so much as Susan Meyers and Edward Anderson have consented together in holy wedlock, and have witnessed the same before God and this company, having given and pledged their faith, each to the other, and having declared same by the giving and receiving of rings, I pronounce that you are husband and wife. I ask you now to seal the promises you have made with each other this day with a kiss."
The priest pronounce, and Edward and I pecked each other.
I looked confused as she thought of the odd occurrences during the wedding.
My instincts told me that something was about to go wrong.
What was going on?
First, we had our wedding without the attendance of his family members.
Second, I overheard him telling someone on the phone that "we" will soon be there.
I was going confront Edward to find out all I needed to know when we got home.
The ride back home was a really silent one.
Suddenly the car swerved to another route.
"Where are we going to?"
I asked in panic.
"Relax sweetie, I'm taking you to your husband's house."
He replied with a mischievous smile.
"I don't understand."
I asked in confusion.
"You see, I am not your husband. I can't even stand the sight of you. I only stood in for my friend, Edward Anderson. Who needed a bride for himself."
He responded with a smug grin.
"How? What do you mean by you're not my husband."
I cringed, loosing my cool at the feeling of being tossed like a toy.
"What don't you understand? You are married to Edward Anderson. I am Liam Reynolds, who stood in for your husband."
He retorted.
My eyes widened as the realization dawned on me that I had just been deceived and misled.
My stomach tightened as raw anger surged through me.
"How dare you do this to me?"
I snarled as I lifted my hands to hit him but Liam caught my hand midway and threw it back.
"Well, shouldn't you be happy that you will stop breathing the same air with me, and seeing my face, like you always say?"
Liam questioned but I was too Infuriated to look at him nor reply.
Soon, we arrived at a magnificent mansion, similar to Liam's but quite bigger.
"Your family's upkeep allowance still remains."
Liam said to me but I eyed him, with hatred and anger surging through my veins as I stepped down from the car.
Looking on, my eyes caught a group of people dressed as maids, waiting at the entrance with lowered heads.
Furrowing my brows in confusion, I glanced at Liam for explanation, but he ignored me while maintaining a stoic expression.
"Welcome home, Mrs Edward."
Liam said beside me, as he held my hands and led me into the mansion.
So much surprise for a day.
I shook my head as I thought.
A part of me was happy because I would no longer have to tolerate Liam's excesses again, while a part of me was anxious as to how my so called husband would relate with me.
"Where is your friend then?"
I asked with a cold voice.
"Easy, easy, I'll take you to him."
Liam said with a smile.
Why was he bein
g accessible all of a sudden.
I questioned myself as I eyed him visciously.
"What's with the impatience?"
A cold baritone voice sounded from the stairs, causing me to swiftly lift my gaze.
