The sun struck Jarec in the eyes like a fist when he staggered outside. The radiant, rugged landscape spread out before him as far back as he could remember — a stark contrast to the oppressive darkness of Obsidian Ridge. He covered his eyes from the blinding sunlight, attempting to take it all in—just as he was endless eyeing a place yet unknown.
Then came Velaris, stepping out behind him like he owned the place; after all it was well within his territory that Druss crossed over into before dusting off some of whatever dirt their may have been onto effortless black locks. A small respite emerged in his expression. That was Velaris, that exultation combined with intense fatigue in his voice. And you never have to work in the mines again. You are still in Valorium, home of war and valor.
Jarec took a moment to glance at the unforgiving beauty of his surroundings. Valorium was a land with many mountains, sturdy and powerful rugged fronts from eons of past wars. A taste was in our mouths of the past, a scent like iron on the breeze and with it came something almost tangible but to most- out of grasp. The other slaves whispered stories of this land, but seeing it for himself was staggering. The more time that passed the less unreal his situation became and it was starting to sink in quite profoundly, as mixed feelings of excitement but also an hovering raildownswing fear knocked at him.
Jarec spoke the name, as though it was something so very heavy on his tongue; "Valorium" The movie replied: 'What do you know about this place? **
Velaris seemed to be holding back a smirk as he glared at sonter. According to legend Valorium is the domain of Rexar, God of War and Valour. The citizens of this place are warriors from birth, taught to fight with weapons and spells. The mine we escaped from was well known as a bandit way station. This place breeds conflict.
Jarec nodded, taking in what he knew. "And what about the magic? How does it work here?"
Serious now, Velaris's expression changed. " The magic gift of the Gifted is intricate and leveling up follows a general hierarchy in which all power users are forced to adhere. Allow me to explain:
Velaris said, sounding like a condescending boss.
"First, every Gifted must find their first Elemental Nexus. These are the ancient and hallowed locations associated with each god's portfolio. From powerful magical barriers to treacherous terrains, these places are spread across the world and often hidden. Not an easy feat by anyone considering it requires using old-world maps, overcoming natural challenges such as dodging through enchanted forests or navigating along submerged caverns. Gifteds may be led to these Nexus sites by cryptic clues, or sometimes even visions granted them from the gods and Cons.
Jarec listened closely as the weight of these trials began to settle upon him, The idea of a journey in order to trace these lost spaces was terrifying and exciting. A place, The Nexus was almost like something out of legend and he could feel the gravity surrounding it.
As soon as a Nexus was found, Velaris went on with his explanation. "That is when the Gifted are taken through their paces in trials which will challenge all of their ability to control an element and be brave; but most importantly these tests must show us if they can think on their feet." Every trial is different, and specifically tests their ability to manipulate the element they command. An Aquarian, for example, might have to navigate underwater mazes; an Ignisian could be challenged in tremendous heat. These trials get more complicated according to the rank in with Gifted currently is, so that only someone who has really mastered can win.
Velaris' eyes shone with a combination of pride and contempt, "A successful Graduate will go to the **Convergence Ceremony** With their Con. A rite to harness their power and other serves as a Rite of the Nexus, binding them entirely closer to their elemental wellspring. The ceremony is then performed with ancient incantations, symbolic tokens and a show of dedication to their Con. This would often result in a boost to the power of an ability, or give rise to some formative aspect that defines higher ranks among the Gifted.
She paused and Velaris took a moment to digest it before she continued. The ***Nexus Mark*** of the Gifted, which appears after a Convergence Ceremony. It is a mark that allows them to express for their new status and shows the world they now have more power. Appearing as a glowing sigil or tattoo displaying the element and what they have unlocked by being Gifted. As you progress through each rank, the mark grows in complexity and bestows new mechanics or enhances existing abilities that offer more ways to surgically modify their element[s].
Jarec was trying to comprehend what he had just gotten himself into. It was a journey of mastering his new found abilities which sounded at once both exciting and terrifying. Little did he know the journey that lay before him is a tale of tribulations and rituals which would challenge his every fibre.
What happens after they get that Nexus Mark? Yes, his voice held a hint of curiosity — Jarec
Velaris's expression wavered, just slightly. This rank and Nexus Mark, allows he or she to be recognized and respected among the Gifted. Advancement allows you to take on new roles and challenges. Power that comes with responsibility and guardian, not abuser of power in the larger world.
Slowly the reality of his words sunk into Jarec. He had been a lowly slave in the dark pits of an underground world. He was now in a brand new world of questions and possibilities far away from what he had everimagine.
He fixed his eyes on Velaris, more determined than ever. "And what about me? I feel like I am just scratching the surface of biggest powers on earth! Where do I even begin on this road?
Velaris peered at him, his voice level but a mixture of antipathy and instruction. It is seldom an easy thing to do as you switch on your role. Yes it will but that is what makes you so much stronger. You have to make your way toward the Nexus, participate in its trials and then do Convergence Ceremony. It will not be easy, but that is the path to mastering your gifts and talent in this world."
Jarec nodded, accepting the burden of his duty. It was going to be a difficult road, but he would walk it with strength and conviction. With Velaris at his side, he would traverse the treacherous society of Valorium, ascend to the highest echelons in all that is Gifted and Legionbound...and unlock everything there was for him within this chaotic discipline. He had no idea what the road ahead would look like, but for once he was looking forward to it.
