[Chapter 611: Big Trouble ]
William White sat in front of the TV, his head feeling heavy. This guy, Soon Ja Du, was something else; he really was on a headshot rhythm.
Damn it, playing a shooting game is one thing, but actually aiming at someone's head? That's a different story altogether.
Well, for a bottle of orange juice, yeah, sure, getting a black eye is part of the deal.
In this situation, that girl is definitely in the wrong. They told you no robbery, and you just went straight to hitting people? Isn't that a stretch?
It's just a supermarket; if it were someone's home, you'd be asking for death.
Hmm, right now, it hasn't improved much. Even though the jury found Soon Ja Du guilty, the judge felt there were mitigating circumstances. In that moment, losing your cool was practically inevitable.
They say Asians are diligent, but in America, the hardest workers are actually the Koreans. They can drive cabs for 24 hours straight, one driving while the other sleeps in the back.
For Americans with face-blindness, the photos on service cards all look pretty much the same.
On the other hand, Koreans have bigger guts than most of the Asians. Asians generally won't dare to hang out in the black neighborhood; that would be risking their lives. Koreans don't fear it; as long as they can make money, they really have guts.
Koreatown is right next to the black community, and the situation here? It's pretty obvious.
"Master, this lady really has some guts."
"Guts? Alright, she's definitely tough. But if this conflict escalates, it'll lead to big trouble."
"Heh, the safest option is really to avoid that place. Things haven't been peaceful lately; the two gangs are clashing."
William White raised an eyebrow and said, "So, tell me, who's stirring the pot?"
"One's called Lame, and the other something with Blood; neither are any good."
"Heh, Lame? Is this a beggar's group? And something with Blood? That's just ridiculous; do they think they're vampires or something?"
"Master, don't underestimate this crew; they're all desperados. If they go after the Koreans, it'll definitely be serious."
"Damn, do we have any assets nearby?"
"One branch, and a Bentley dealership."
William White looked torn; he really wanted to curse. Damn it, the branch is alright, that's an acquisition. But a Bentley dealership? The wealthy black brothers wouldn't even live in that neighborhood.
"Tanner, what's up with that Bentley dealership? Who picked the location?"
"Master, we had no choice; it's a franchise. It's not in the black neighborhood, just nearby."
"Alright, send someone to keep an eye on these idiots. I have a feeling this won't be wrapped up easily."
The various conflicts in America are closely tied to the economy. This year's GDP was negative growth, and the unemployment rate was hovering around 7%.
You have to understand that this is non-farm payroll data for the whole country. If it includes the black community, the unemployment rate could be even higher.
Alright, it definitely would be higher. The talk of non-discrimination is just hot air. Under the same circumstances, the acceptance rate for black brothers is very low.
If he remembered correctly, that chaotic incident that swept through Los Angeles should happen next year. Better to get prepared early; Beverly Hills will be fine. But with kids and a pregnant wives at home, it's best to be cautious.
Aside from Beverly Hills, which is a wealthy area, Los Angeles is practically a battlefield. Those who know what's happening can see the chaos; those who don't might think they've landed in Somalia.
The soldiers and police in America operate similarly. The reason Beverly Hills remains safe is that the people living there pay high taxes.
"Tsk, looks like we should hurry up with the first Fast and Furious. Since next year is going to be packed with trouble, I might as well take a vacation," William White murmured to himself in his study.
It seems next year will be a troublesome one; Los Angeles is a hotspot for drama.
Wait a minute, something's off. If giving Saddam a good beating leads to senior Bush losing points, then this incident in Los Angeles could very well send Bush packing back to his roots.
William White realized this was becoming serious. The hidden hand lurking in the shadows clearly didn't like Bush.
Sure enough, even if Bush Sr. taught Saddam a lesson, his policies are comparatively moderate. When dealing with the Soviets, he leans towards conservatism.
Whether it's the Gulf War or Desert Storm, the wars are all contained within manageable limits. Clearly, those hiding in the dark require a much bolder approach.
...
"Sir, Mr. Costner won't be able to make a cameo; our shooting schedule conflicts with his."
"Hmm, Lisa, what movie is he working on?"
"JFK. Most of the scenes will be in Washington, D.C. It's a Warner Bros. film."
"Tsk, what a shame. That should be a biopic. Heh, they're probably hoping to snag an Oscar."
Lisa remained quiet. After being here for a while, she had some understanding of her boss. He was a guy who liked to talk to himself; if he needed a response, he'd precede his question with your name.
"Hmm, got it. Can you ask Tanner to come over?"
William White was well aware of this movie; in fact, it holds a special place in cinematic history. The guy making it is quite the master.
But to tackle a subject like this in an election year? Has Warner Bros. lost their minds?
William White doesn't believe in the Kennedy family curse; that's all nonsense.
This family's run of bad luck comes from blocking people's money paths. If that guy hadn't been assassinated, the Vietnam War would have ended years earlier and wouldn't have reached the later disastrous situation.
"Tanner, arrange for someone to watch this film crew. I'm really curious who's investing in a project destined to lose money."
"Kennedy? Heh, the president's job is really dangerous."
"Yeah, a single bullet can cause seven wounds; I wonder if that magic bullet is remotely controlled."
"This director has some guts. Mysteriously dead people have already hit double digits. Could it be someone wants to settle old scores?"
"Exactly, think about the Bush family's background. Oil and defense contractors are his biggest backers. And the beneficiaries of the Kennedy incident, aside from that replacement guy, are those companies."
Tanner was taken aback. He never expected that just one film could have so many undercurrents.
"No way, the current one has a reputation that's sky-high, and the cost of this war isn't even that severe."
"Tanner, some folks don't want to see this situation. If it can drag on for three to five years, that'd be perfect. The war can be wrapped up in a few days; aside from those selling missiles, everyone else has no interest. Just think about it; oil was over fifty dollars a barrel at its peak. If this war lasts a year, I'm sure those selling oil will be quite happy. As for the arms dealers, they'd be ecstatic. Too bad some people care too much about that position and don't want to escalate the war."
"I understand, Master. You want to find out who the puppet master is, right?"
"Exactly; these folks all support the Donkey party. It seems next year's plans are uncertain. We also need to raise our alert level because the media I control aren't favored by this group."
