[Chapter 531: Ways to Continue the Family Legacy]
"Young master, the Morgan family's eldest son was just born. Shouldn't we send our congratulations?"
"Hmm, Fulton, what generation is this for them?"
"Ha, that's hard to say. If we're talking about notable achievements, this would be the fourth generation. By the way, the White family has some ties with them."
"Are you referring to the incident when they fled London?"
"Yeah, many of these American conglomerates have a bit of that in their history."
"Alright then, it seems like they really value this little guy. How about we send over my customized Aston Martin?"
"Okay master. I'll take care of it."
Although William White had his differences with Morgan Stanley, he still respected the Morgan family to a degree. They were all part of the upper echelon and could compete against each other without needing to draw swords.
This newborn would eventually become Morgan Stanley's heir. It was hard to believe someone so young could handle such a vast estate without being a total spoiled brat.
Of course, he was still too young for any real interaction with William White. Most likely, it would be his own son who would be competing with him in the future.
...
"Filson, I'm planning to set up three offshore trust companies."
"Sir, who's the beneficiary?" Filson guessed, but he didn't shy away from asking; this was of great importance.
"Ugh, I don't know what my three kids are good at or like, but I can't wait any longer. This is preventive planning, I suppose."
"Understood, sir. I think you'll need to consider the specifics and scale."
"Yeah, I still need a bit of time. Just go ahead and set everything up."
"Alright, sir, I'll need about a week."
"Great, nothing else for now, that'll be all."
Establishing offshore trust companies wasn't a spur-of-the-moment idea for William White. This had been on his mind for a while. Charitable and family foundations could only ensure a comfortable living; they weren't much help when it came to future planning.
Trust companies were different; they operated more like small investment banks, serving solely the beneficiaries themselves.
Of course, for effective tax avoidance, the assets placed in trust companies should preferably be securities. They could have real estate, but not in large quantities.
In those assets, the most suitable one without a doubt was Microsoft. Even a mere two percent stake would be quite a significant figure.
While he favored his daughter more, he didn't show blatant bias. He had given the entirety of his shares in Hong Kong Telecommunications to her without hesitation. That investment was a guaranteed return, requiring little effort.
As for his two sons, he struggled to discern what would be best for them. For one son, he leaned towards software and would get Oracle shares, while the other, focusing on hardware, would receive stocks like Cisco.
The birth of the Morgan kid was indeed an incentive. The main reason was that after a medical checkup, William White found out his chances of fathering more children were slim. This meant he might not have many offspring through normal means.
Fair enough, there were special methods, but William White wasn't keen on using them. Maybe in the future, but for now, it was unnecessary to consider. Just because it was difficult, didn't mean it was impossible.
Thinking of this, William White couldn't help but sigh. He had reaped the benefits of crossing over, but there had to be some downsides. Otherwise, that wouldn't be fair at all.
On the bright side, at least everything still functioned properly. If that went south, he might as well return to where he came from. No matter how much money he made, if he couldn't produce heirs, what would life even mean? He couldn't just play whack-a-mole every day.
Reflecting on the unfortunate predecessors of crossing over, William felt fortunate. He had made such rapid progress that even if he met a child of destiny, he might not necessarily come out on the losing side.
...
"Hey, hun, how's my movie being received out there?"
"Ha ha, everyone's saying it's a pity."
"What do you mean pity?" The young beauty's big eyes were adorable, blinking away.
"Ha, it's like a diamond lost in the mud. Can you believe it?"
"Pfft, I think it's about right."
"Enough about that! Come here and give me a hug. Wow, looks like you've gained some weight."
"Darling, if I've gotten chubby, will you still want me?"
"Silly girl, what are you saying? Let me check you out."
"Nope!"
"Hey, looks like you've been watching too many Japanese 'action' movies. Ha ha."
Fertile land still needed to be tilled regularly. If too much time passed, it could easily become barren. Knowing his own situation, William White certainly didn't mind putting in a little more effort.
Warm moments always flew by quickly, and when the lovely Michelle Reis asked about the movie, it was only because she knew her man had a soft spot for that kind of talk.
Now that they had everything, whether or not she shot a film was no longer a big deal. Her personal assets were already over a hundred million; whether she made films was really not that important.
...
"Sir, it seems our forecasts for the mobile phone market weren't very accurate."
"It can't be, with a total of ten million units, isn't that enough?"
"I just checked the orders, and it looks like we need fifteen million units. It's quite a miracle."
"Dang, then we need to place an additional order. But here's the deal: does our current data center have the capacity for that many users?"
"Sir, it may look like a big number, but in a global context, it's really not that much."
"Crap, if we're losing out here, Motorola's data center equipment is going to make a killing."
"Ahem, sir, our profits are still decent. The mobile phone sector is projected to be worth over ten billion. If things run smoothly, we could at least hit a twenty billion valuation."
"Sigh, I guess we're giving them a break. I had no idea if mastering the technology was going to be this easy, we wouldn't have teamed up with them."
This wasn't William White being dramatic. The initial collaborations could still be deemed mutually beneficial. And as for now, no one could really point fingers at William White, no matter how picky they were.
"How's the CPU division looking?"
"Doing great! Many handheld detection devices are using our CPU, and orders in that area are showing steady growth."
"I guess Intel must be feeling a bit frustrated. Hopefully, their next generation product will be better."
"Ha ha, sir, they're tangled up with AMD, and ironically, their CPUs aren't as stable as AMD's."
William White didn't agree with that statement. Both companies had their strengths. Intel excelled at design, while AMD was known for its factory management prowess.
It wasn't about which was better or worse; the key was finding the most suitable path. IBM might be capable of everything, but look at them - they weren't selling anything.
That's just how super-large corporations behaved. Once they reached a certain point, they tended to become complacent. Other firms were fine, but high-tech companies really shouldn't stick to the old ways.
