[Chapter 506: Planning to Overtake on a Bend]
William White convinced Jason Garrison to invest in Australia, and of course, it wasn't just a shot in the dark. He himself owned several farms down there and planned to ramp up his investment in Australia.
"Sir, the semiconductor market has been behaving strangely lately; prices are fluctuating wildly. Our think tank has basically concluded that it's the Samsung Group."
"Samsung? That company is quite formidable, Filson. Keep a close eye on their every move."
"Alright, sir. Also, we need to accelerate our second-phase project."
William White had already guessed; Samsung was planning a comeback. Ultimately, it was nothing but a price war.
Only this time, they miscalculated. Since they didn't cooperate, they deserved to fail.
"This isn't enough; we need to notify the Japanese side. The South Koreans come in strong this time; they'll be tough to deal with. How's the project in Taiwan coming along? If it isn't progressing, we can make some concessions."
"We'll have results soon. The crash in the Japanese stock market has probably scared them."
William White was well aware that the Japanese were bound to suffer this time around. If a price war broke out now, Japan would likely crumble.
"Filson, I can't make the move this time; assign someone trustworthy. We need to keep the pricing pact discreet."
Filson understood. The boss was aiming for a price alliance, which of course had to be handled with some subtlety.
...
Meanwhile, the Samsung Group was keeping tabs on William White. They knew well if the Japanese economy faltered, they would gain the upper hand in the semiconductor field.
However, with William White as a variable, things became tricky.
Looking back, their initial refusal seemed like a blunder. The speed of development in the semiconductor industry was completely unexpected.
"President, the other side refuses to meet."
"Ah, I was careless. So, did you buy the phone?"
"Yes, I checked earlier, and those guys are truly infuriating. What they sold us were defective products."
"Let's take it back and see if there's a way to reverse-engineer it."
...
Motorola had a market share of up to ninety percent in South Korea. This result completely disregarded the South Koreans' fragile feelings. To them, it was a massive embarrassment.
Filson had always struggled to understand: if a partner was truly needed, South Korea would undoubtedly be a better fit. Why was the boss so insistent?
Was it really just because they were indifferent when the boss went in person last time?
The head of the Samsung Group was willing to come in person; that already showed a lot of humility. He was even certain that if the conditions weren't too harsh, he'd opt for cooperation.
However, he clearly underestimated someone's pettiness.
Filson thought South Korea was earnest; that was his perspective. William White did not see any sincerity there. If they truly wanted to resolve matters, they should've sent their leading lady.
It's not that William White had a dirty mind. He wasn't looking to get too personal.
Sure, learning a bit from Bill Clinton wouldn't hurt. Enjoying oneself in the Oval Office would definitely be thrilling, but it was just a little too tasteless.
Bill Clinton could be considered the first person to rise from the common ranks to that position. He'd had good luck; during his eight years in office, he really didn't do much -- just went along with the flow.
As for the scandal that later broke, it was purely a matter of technical failure.
Lacking family background shows. People coming from large families would never pull such stunts in the Oval Office; that would simply be too foolish.
Although he didn't see William White and felt a bit disappointed, it wasn't a total loss. That unreasonable jerk, while a bit tough, didn't push them around any further.
"By the way, Filson, how's our new battery coming along? Still not passing inspection?"
"Sir, there's just one issue: overcharging can cause some adverse reactions. In extreme cases, it might explode."
"Darn, we can't put this off. Japan and Europe are all over this. We must ensure a competitive advantage."
"Sir, we've really gone all out."
"Alright, alright, I get it, this thing is quite challenging. What I want to emphasize is that when GSM phones come out, they will fully utilize lithium batteries."
"I understand, sir."
The lithium battery was nearly ready, but the factory location was giving them headaches.
Lithium batteries are eco-friendly, but the production of lithium batteries isn't. If those eco-warriors got wind of this, it could cause major problems for them.
