Chapter 4 - Accident...?

Su Mei entered Xi Corporation and approached the reception desk, where a woman was busy shaping her nails.

"Hello, I need to meet the Acting CEO to give this file," Su Mei said, her voice devoid of emotion.

The receptionist looked up in shock, quickly masking her surprise with a mocking smile. "Oh, Ms. Su Mei, please wait in the lobby. I'll let you know when the CEO is done with his meeting."

"Okay," Su Mei replied, turning towards the lobby and sitting down.

Another receptionist, less experienced, leaned in to whisper, "Lili, are you crazy? Isn't she the real heiress of the Xi's? I mean, the real Chairwoman now that everyone in her family..."

"Hmph... let's say a useless Chairwoman, who doesn't have authority or any hope. Things have changed a lot. The company isn't hers anymore. Even if it's in her name, the real leaders and heirs are someone else. Ms. Qu Rui instructed me to make her wait for an hour or so, then take the file and send her back."

"Oh, they're so mean to her," the other one remarked.

"Hmph... who asked her to be like this... deadly gorgeous but with a mind full of mud," Lili replied as she resumed polishing her nails.

Just then, a group of employees walked in, coffee cups in hand, and spotted Su Mei sitting in the lobby.

"Hey, isn't that Ms. Su Mei?" one of the women whispered.

"Su Mei? That dumb heiress? I heard she embarrassed herself in front of everyone," another employee added.

"It gets worse… she usually doesn't even speak or respond to people. After that accident on her 19th birthday, her parents ended up in a coma, and her brother was jailed for being drunk when he drove that evening," another person commented.

"People say she's possessed, and thanks to her uncle, Xi Corporation still survives," someone else said.

"I hope the company's next heir can be Xi Yuan. She's from the prestigious Premier League," a man chimed in.

"Premier League? The one that only a handful of people from our country attended?" a woman asked.

"Yes… her English name is… ah… Sera."

Su Mei, who had just come to deliver the document her uncle needed, sat motionless, her heart numb to the cruel words being spoken around her. But one word caught her attention—Sera. She stood up abruptly, her intention to confront the speaker clear, but suddenly a sharp pain shot through her head. Clutching her temple, she hesitated, then slowly turned away, walking out of Xi Corporation without another word.

Lifeless and distracted, she walked onto the road, nearly getting hit by a car. Thanks to the quick reflexes of the driver, he barely stopped in time; otherwise, the situation would have been dire. Before she could assess what had happened, her eyes widened in fear as her mind shut down, and she lost consciousness from the shock.

The person in the car walked out to see a woman fainting in front of it. As he got closer and stared at the woman's face...his eyes widened, and his face went pale with worry.

"What's the delay?" The three words from the backseat made it hard for Fu Lei to breathe.

He gathered his courage, rushed to the back, and dared to open the door. Seeing that his door was opened, Mo Hui glared at Fu Lei.

"Boss, I didn't dare to touch the Miss, so I..." Before Fu Lei could complete his sentence, the six-foot-tall man stepped out of the car, drawing the attention of passersby. He looked like a crafted gem that could make one hold their breath upon viewing.

His actions were swift, fast, and efficient. The moment he heard "Miss" from his assistant, he knew who he was referring to. His long strides took him to the front, where he saw a beautiful Su Mei, fainted and pale. His long arms quickly scooped her up from the street, carrying her into the back seat of the car. Fu Lei quickly got into the driver's seat and sped towards the hospital.

From the rearview mirror, Fu Lei saw his boss holding the woman, looking like he had no intention of letting her go. Mo Hui's face showed a hint of panic and nervousness that Fu Lei had never witnessed before.

Thank God he didn't dare to lift the woman himself and was smart enough to act according to the situation. If he had been a second late in assessing it, he might have lost his arms. Just thinking about it sent shivers down his spine.

"Not fast enough," the man's voice from the backseat was enough for Fu Lei to push the car to its maximum speed, rushing to the hospital.

Mo Hui held Su Mei in his arms as he exited the car.

"I'll take her to the VIP room. Go and call Aunt Chu immediately," he said, not waiting as he rushed into the exclusive elevator in long strides.

This was Fei Group, the top doctors' family in the Y nation. The one his boss wanted to summon was the daughter-in-law of Chairman Fei Jingshan, the only man to hold a Quadruple Board Certification in medicine in the country. He was known as the "god of life" by the people. But Fu Lei knew the relationship between the Fei's and Mo's. His boss's mother, Fei Meiren, was the daughter of the great Fei Jingshan, so his boss was practically summoning his aunt, his uncle's wife.

20 minutes later.

Inside the VIP ward.

"I heard you personally carried the girl upstairs," Fei Zhiqi, Mo Hui's uncle who accompanied his wife to the ward, said as his wife was checking on Su Mei in the inner room of the VIP ward.

Mo Hui's eyes were fixed on the door where his aunt and Su Mei were. He didn't reply or deny anything.

"So, she..." Before Fei Zhiqi could continue, Chu Yuxi walked out of the room.

"Are you aware of the girl's situation before the accident? Ah, I meant her mental condition," Chu Yuxi spoke, looking troubled.

"Amnesia. She isn't the same person she was before she woke up," Mo Hui reluctantly spoke.

"That explains it," Chu Yuxi said. "She was under great pressure just now. In this situation, she will either end up with neurocognitive decline, regain her memory, or remain the same. I suggest keeping her in check because—oh boy—her body is so weak. Someone, or perhaps she herself, I'm not sure, but she was starved for days. If this continues, she might die before she even has a chance to recover." Chu Yuxi said as she patted her nephew's shoulder.

Fu Zhiqi didn't speak much and followed his wife, Chu Yuxi out.
