Chapter 7 - A FALSE APPEAL(episode 7)

As Chris left Chief Eneh's house, he began to ponder on what just transpired. He needed money, quite alright, but not in the way it was presented to him. However, he needed to act fast as his wife's life was at stake. Owing to this, an evil thought began to play in his mind and he resolved to carry it out.

Chris came across a young lady who was just emerging from the bank. He treacherously snatched her fat purse of money and took to his heels. The young lady whose purse was snatched raised an alarm and at once Chris was given a hot pursuit. Chris ran Helter skelter; made a detour to a nearby market and pushing away traders and their food commodities thus increasing the number of his pursuers.

When he finally ran out from the market, he came across a small river boundary which limited him from running farther. Having no other alternative in mind, Chris jumped into the river and got drowned.

By the time Chris flickered his eyes open, he had expected to see himself in the hospital perhaps receiving treatment and Nora by his side petting him and feeding him his favourite meal but to his dismay, he was surrounded by an angry mob, each holding a weapon. He turned around and saw old car tyres piled up. Chris needed not be told that he was going to be set ablaze within those tyres.

Just at the last minute, Chris seeming messiah appeared. The man, no doubt, was a renowned and influential person judging from the way he made an appeal on Chris' behalf. Gradually, the crowd dispersed. The man and Chris were left alone.

"Who are you?" Chris asked the gentleman.

"Do I need to remind you my personality? Anyway, I didn't save you because I had a genuine intention" the man dropped the bombshell.

"How do you mean?" a puzzled Chris queried.

"I know you might not remember me but here you are today. Fate has brought us together once more. You did borrow a huge sum of money from me few years ago, promising to pay back as soon as possible only for you to escape and leave me in regret. The best I can do now is to lock you up at the police station than allow those angry mob descend on you" the man recited before he began to dial numbers on his phone.

Out of the blue, Chris regained strength and raced off for his dear life even before the man could swing into action.
