Chapter 72 - Masha's Battle with Violett

The city's streets were eerily quiet, the usual hum of life replaced by the tension of an impending battle. As Masha stepped out of the restaurant, her heart pounded in her chest, the adrenaline coursing through her veins. She knew that this was not just another skirmish; this was a fight that would test everything she had learned, every ounce of her strength and resolve.

Ahead of her, standing poised and ready, was Violett, one of the Shade Society's most feared warriors. Violett's reputation as a deadly archer was well-known, her Arcon capable of creating arrows of immense power that could pierce through the toughest of defenses. Masha knew she would need to be quick, agile, and precise—one wrong move, and it could all be over.

Violett's eyes narrowed as she regarded Masha, a sly smile playing on her lips. "So, you're the one I'm supposed to take down? This should be fun."

Masha didn't respond with words; instead, she drew her sword and took a defensive stance, her mind focused on the battle ahead. She had no time for banter—Violett was a formidable opponent, and Masha knew she couldn't afford to be distracted.

Violett's smile widened as she notched an arrow in her bow, the weapon glowing with a faint, otherworldly light. "Let's see how long you can keep up," she said, her voice dripping with confidence.

With a swift, fluid motion, Violett released the arrow, the air around it shimmering as it flew toward Masha at breakneck speed. But Masha was ready. In an instant, she channeled her mana into her blade and called out, "Rise, Zephyros!"

Her sword transformed, the metal taking on a sharp, ethereal quality as the wind around her began to swirl with intense force. Masha swung Zephyros in a wide arc, creating a powerful gust of wind that deflected the arrow just before it reached her. The arrow veered off course, embedding itself harmlessly into the wall behind her.

Violett's eyes gleamed with interest. "Not bad," she admitted, already preparing her next attack. "But let's see how you handle this."

She unleashed a barrage of arrows, each one charged with enough energy to blast through solid stone. Masha moved with lightning speed, her blade creating a shield of wind that deflected the arrows as they came at her from all directions. The wind howled around her, the force of it nearly lifting her off the ground as she parried each of Violett's attacks with precision and grace.

But Masha knew she couldn't stay on the defensive forever. She needed to close the distance between them if she wanted any chance of winning. Violett was keeping her at bay with her arrows, and Masha needed to disrupt her rhythm, to throw her off balance.

Summoning her courage, Masha dashed forward, using the wind to propel her at incredible speed. Violett's eyes widened in surprise as Masha closed the gap between them in an instant, her sword flashing as she aimed a strike at Violett's bow.

But Violett was quick. She sidestepped the attack, her bow transforming into a long, sleek spear in her hands. She spun the spear with practiced ease, using it to block Masha's strike before countering with a swift jab aimed at Masha's side.

Masha twisted her body, narrowly avoiding the blow. She retaliated with a slash of her own, the wind around Zephyros whipping into a frenzy as it cut through the air. The two women clashed, their weapons meeting in a shower of sparks as they fought with a speed and intensity that left no room for error.

Violett's spear danced in her hands, striking with the precision of a trained warrior. But Masha was relentless, her blade moving like a whirlwind, creating gusts of wind that disrupted Violett's movements and forced her to retreat.

For a moment, it seemed as if Masha had the upper hand. She pressed the attack, using Zephyros to create powerful wind slashes that forced Violett on the defensive. But Violett was far from defeated.

With a smirk, Violett leapt back, her spear once again transforming into a bow. She notched another arrow, this one glowing with a dark, ominous energy. "You've got spirit," Violett said, her voice cold. "But let's see how you handle this."

She released the arrow, and as it flew toward Masha, it split into multiple projectiles, each one homing in on her from different angles. Masha's eyes widened as she realized the danger she was in. She couldn't block all of them at once—she needed to think fast.

In a split second, Masha made a decision. She channeled all of her remaining mana into Zephyros, the blade glowing with an intense light as the wind around her intensified. She raised the sword high and called out, "Zephyros, shield me!"

The wind responded to her command, forming a protective barrier around her just as the arrows reached her. The projectiles collided with the wind shield, exploding on impact but failing to penetrate the protective barrier.

Violett's confident smile faltered as she watched her attack be neutralized. Masha took advantage of the momentary lapse in Violett's focus. With a determined shout, she released the wind barrier, sending the energy outward in a powerful shockwave that caught Violett off guard.

Violett staggered, struggling to regain her balance as the shockwave knocked her back. Masha didn't waste a second—she charged forward, closing the distance between them once again. This time, she wouldn't let Violett recover.

With a swift, decisive strike, Masha slashed at Violett's bow, the force of her attack shattering the weapon into pieces. Violett gasped in shock, her eyes wide with disbelief as her weapon disintegrated in her hands.

Masha pointed Zephyros at Violett, her expression fierce. "It's over, Violett. Surrender."

For a moment, it seemed as if Violett would fight back, but then she saw the determination in Masha's eyes—the unyielding resolve of someone who would stop at nothing to protect those she cared about. With a resigned sigh, Violett dropped the remnants of her bow and raised her hands in surrender.

"You win, Masha," Violett said quietly, her voice tinged with defeat. "But don't think this is the end. The Shade Society won't stop until we've achieved our goals."

Masha lowered her sword, her expression softening slightly. "Then we'll just have to stop you," she replied. "No matter what."

Violett nodded, a hint of respect in her eyes as she looked at Masha. "You're stronger than I thought. But remember, the real battle is yet to come."

With those final words, Violett turned and walked away, leaving Masha standing alone in the middle of the street. The battle was won, but Masha knew that the war was far from over. She had faced a powerful opponent and emerged victorious, but the thought of what lay ahead weighed heavily on her mind.

As she sheathed Zephyros, Masha couldn't help but think of her friends—Sara, Alan, and Sam. They were all fighting their own battles, and she hoped that they, too, would find the strength to overcome whatever challenges they faced.

With a deep breath, Masha turned and headed back toward the city, ready to rejoin her friends and continue the fight. The Shade Society was a formidable enemy, but Masha knew that as long as they stood together, they could overcome anything.
