The moon cast its pale light across their chamber, spilling through window and rested on her restless form. Elysia lay tangled in her sheets, her mind racing with fragmented thoughts of Azrael and Lucan. The silence of the night was calm and quiet, and no matter how she tried, sleep eluded her.
Elysia sighed deeply, sitting up and rubbing her temples. The faint scent of lavender from a nearby vase did little to soothe her frayed nerves. A sudden knock on the door broke the stillness. Her heart leaped, her thoughts immediately drifting to Azrael. She let out a sigh before answering , "Come in."
The door creaked open, revealing the King. His tall frame filled the doorway, his arms crossed over his chest. He wore a loose, dark robe, his hair slightly tousled as though he had been as restless as she.
"You are still awake," Azrael remarked, stepping inside and closing the door behind him.
