Chapter 1 - Stuck

"Boris, do you hear me, Boris?"

"He seems to be losing the signal."

"I can hear you, Dimitri, and no, Ivan, I just did not want to respond."

"Oh, I guess you opened that little mouth of yours on the scenery; I knew you were still a kid."

"No, it is just that attacking hospitals is not that humane of a thing."

"Boris, we all know it is wrong in a way, but still, we are in a war."

"No shit, I know it is a fucking war, but these are civilians, and this hospital has this place where babies are put."

"Well for me, I have not found any babies, we have escorted all of the women and we needed to kill the men who are working there

why-?

Because they were trying to fucking kill me Boris, I knew it was too harsh for you; you just had to stay in Moscow. Now hurry; you are the only one that remains, and this old walkie-talkie's battery is going to end.

Ok, I am coming

as he was returning to the entrance, he heard the cries of a baby. He followed the sound until he found the door opening to an operation room. He opened it, and he found the tragic scene of a woman shot in the neck. He then turned around to find a little bed in which lay the baby, that was most likely hers and was crying all along. He then looked in her again and saw a notebook next to her bed. He opened it and found that only one page was written down; it said:

" Dear me, I am going to give birth for the first time, I know I have no one in this world after my husband, I don't really know why it was destined for him to die just a month before my operation, and here I am, I cannot say that I am not scared, because I also want to live for my son, The birth is not going to be a natural, and there are risks to it, but I will live for him and name him Icarius just like grandpa tol--nevermind, I am not allowed to say that stuff anyways; I am going to give him my last name because his dad died and I do not want him to remember it that much, Maybe I am wrong but I want it anyways, and I wish all of the best for myself."

Boris was angrily pressing with his fingers the notebook as he was reading, knowing what really happened, He put it down, went to the baby, held it with both of his hands and went out of the hospital

"Boris, what the hell are you holdi—?"

"You shut the fuck up, you fucking twat, Is this how inhumane you became, killing a lady who just gave birth?"

"She was violently reacting to us trying to get her."

"Maybe because she is a mom Ivan, and you couldn't control your anger, could you?"

"... So what are going to do with that kid?"

"None of your fucking business."

Two years after that, Japan surrendered and made a peace treaty that basically took every single thing related to radioactivity from it, It was obvious...

Boris then tried everything to get a residency in Japan itself, buying with his savings a café in there and a house.

Years went by, and Icarius went to school. He was a shy boy, and he was not the best at school, Boris was a pretty sincere person, He told him everything about the past and what happened to his parents so he knows

Icarius became a highschool student, and he was still 14—8 months away from becoming 15 years old. Throughout his years at this planet, he was known for this thing: keeping his hair long to avoid eye contact, to hide more of his face and just in a representation of how stuck he felt in himself

the day of June 7, 2041, will forever be remembered by him. When he woke up that Thursday morning, he was overcome with a sense of discomfort. The world was in chaos, not the technological utopia that many had imagined. While the effects of radiation were becoming more and more apparent on Earth, governments were obsessed with nuclear testing and planning for possible external threats.

After a short breakfast, immersed in his thoughts, he began his ordinary walk to school.

He was always walking and looking to the ground when doing so, and that day he wasn't really that focused so when he stepped up into the road, he was almost hit by a car.

"Look at the roads, bitch; you almost got me in jail."

he continued his way, went to school and to his seat and immersed again in a bunch of imaginations and thoughts

'Icarius, Icarius, I hate saying this name, Fokuna"

"Uh, what, teacher?"

"You must be creating some sort of theorem when you zone out of my class because it isn't that important, right?"

The class starts laughing

"No, I didn't do it by purpose."

"You could have made it less awkward if you said purposefully instead, that is our lesson, adverbs, now take your textbook, page 69, and..."

He was out of this world and constantly getting farther because of daily reactions like these

He came back home tired, showered, and started doing his work, While doing his homework, his eyes kept returning to the picture of his mother that Boris found in the hospital archive. When she died and as a mother, there was this void that would never be filled by anyone. A tear began to stream down his cheek as he wished she was still there to help him through life's uncertainties.

Something strange was happening on the ground in front of him, and it shocked him. A white hole was forming nearby, distorting spacetime in the process. He could not look away, even though he was terrified of what he was seeing. His heart was pounding from the inexplicable incident and he started breathing as intensely as ever.

He paused, but his body shook violently as he reached out his hands toward the hole. It began to fade, and he felt a chilly wind hit them. He had no idea what was going on, but he was so intrigued that he had to look into it.

Using his right hand, he continued, but suddenly he lost his balance and fell out of bed into the unknown. The world around him faded into a fog of colors and shapes, and he felt himself hurtling toward an unknowable destination. He felt stuck in midair, lost in thought, and wondering where this unusual gateway might lead.
