"A break?" Mattie asked her heart, thumping really hard, of all the things she didn't want this from him.
Julian stared at Mattie, his expression incredulous. He never wanted their relationship to end this way, but she was pushing him too far.
"We can't..." Mattie's voice trembled as tears welled up in her eyes. She sank to her knees, desperation etched on her face. "Please, we can't do this. We can sort things out together."
Julian took a deep breath, his resolve firm. "I have tried my best to understand you, Mattie, but we need a break from each other. It will be a great help for both of us."
Mattie's eyes widened, accusations flashing in them. "You are beginning to fall for her, aren't you? That bitch…"
Julian's jaw clenched. "She doesn't want anything to do with me because you have constantly bullied her into refusing treatment. You are not the girl I once knew."
Mattie's voice cracked. "You don't love me anymore, do you?"
