Dolores didn't bring any people with her; she only brought a list. Technically, it was up to Charlotte to take the list and go to these departments to pull the personnel. After all, since this city guard unit might be heading to the front lines, no one was eager to join.
Charlotte glanced at the list and immediately set it aside.
Dolores was filled with curiosity about Charlotte. She knew this man was her cousin's subordinate, Annie's boyfriend, a lowly figure, and an ambitious climber...
As for Charlotte's identity as a transcendent being and his recent impressive achievements, Dolores wasn't overly concerned. The Su Mé family had plenty of high-ranking transcendent beings and no shortage of young talents.
Had she not been a woman, who could receive support from the family, Dolores believed she would be on the verge of advancing to a mid-level transcendent herself, possibly even reaching the edge of becoming a high-level transcendent within a few years.
Typically, low-level transcendent beings were common among university students and recent graduates, while mid-level transcendent beings were more prevalent among those in their thirties. Most high-level transcendent beings were in their forties or fifties.
All transcendent paths required time to hone, and only a rare few geniuses could progress more quickly, but such cases were beyond ordinary expectations.
After taking a small sip of coffee, Dolores said, "There's one more thing! We need to go to the Central Government Office together to register the Knights Regiment."
Charlotte, who had spent two years at the Central Government Office, knew the procedures there and said, "Then we'd better get going. If we wait too long, they might stop working for the day."
Dolores calmly finished her coffee and walked out of the office.
Charlotte watched as Dolores got into his carriage, and he had no choice but to follow.
Dolores occupied the small study inside the carriage, pulled a book from the shelf, and began to read slowly. Charlotte, recognizing the situation, kept quiet and gave Lady Nancy the address.
When they arrived at the Central Government Office, they got out of the carriage and walked side by side into Charlotte's former workplace. He felt a bit nostalgic and thought, "I hope I don't run into anyone I know; it would be hard to explain my current status as a Level 34, Grade 4 official and the head of the Lucavaro District City Guard."
But luck wasn't on his side. As soon as they entered the Central Government Office, Charlotte saw a former colleague, Mr. Edgar, walking out with a beaming smile. They nearly brushed shoulders.
Charlotte tried to sidestep, intending to avoid contact, but Edgar, sharp-eyed, recognized his former colleague and called out, "Is that Mr. Mecklenburg? I heard you went to the prison. It's a shame because you missed the chance for a promotion. Now you'll have to wait another three years."
Nodding slightly to Charlotte, Edgar then turned his attention to Dolores and said, "Are you friends with Charlotte? He's a good man, just unlucky to have missed this promotion. He'll have to wait three more years."
"I'm a Level 2 clerk at the Central Government Office. I might be promoted to Level 3 soon."
Dolores, being the former Laurel Goddess of Gorgias University, far exceeded the beauty standards typically seen at the Central Government Office. Edgar eagerly tried to impress her, even fantasizing about her admiring him, ditching Charlotte, and falling into his arms.
Charlotte, seeing this unfold, interrupted his peacock-like former colleague and said, "We're here to take care of some business. If we don't hurry, everyone will be leaving soon. You know how the Central Government Office never waits for anyone."
The Central Government Office was known for an old joke: A frontline soldier once brought an order demanding the allocation of weapons. When he arrived at the Central Government Office, it was closing time. A bureaucrat arrogantly told him, "Even a war can't interfere with our closing time," and sent the soldier away to enjoy his afternoon tea.
The outcome of that story wasn't pretty. The Empire's forces were completely wiped out due to the lack of supplies, and the line was lost.
That arrogant bureaucrat was eventually hanged for dereliction of duty.
But the story lived on, and nearly every bureaucrat at the Central Government Office had heard it. Many even kept that phrase on their lips: "Even a war can't interfere with our closing time."
Edgar, left with no choice, could only watch as the two walked away, still shouting behind them, "Miss, may I know your name?"
Dolores didn't look back, and after walking some distance, she quietly complained, "Don't you have any female staff at the Central Government Office? Why did he look like he'd never seen a woman before?"
Charlotte laughed, "Of course, he's never seen anyone as beautiful as you. Even I don't get to see such beauty often."
Dolores gave a mischievous smile and asked a question that struck at the core, "Who's prettier, me or Annie?"
Without hesitation, Charlotte quickly responded, "There's a saying in the New World: In the eyes of a man in love, no woman can compare to his beloved."
Dolores laughed, "I've never heard that saying before."
Charlotte shrugged, not bothering to explain that he had just made it up, borrowing the wisdom of Earth.
The two soon found the Military Knights Regiment Department at the Central Government Office. Charlotte, familiar with the place, noticed that the staff inside seemed relaxed, chatting and laughing as if they were about to leave for the day. He quickly approached a silent middle-aged man, slipped him a coin, and said, "We're from the Lucavaro District City Guard, and we need to reorganize into a Free Knights Regiment. Could you help us with the paperwork?"
The silent man discreetly squeezed the coin in his hand and said, "I can handle it. Do you have the necessary documents?"
Charlotte handed over the paperwork Dolores had brought. The man reviewed the documents and said, "I'll also need your IDs and the Knights Regiment application form. The application must include the name of the regiment, its headquarters, and its jurisdiction..."
Charlotte answered all the questions, and when it came to naming the regiment, he quickly chose "Westwind Knights," after all, Annie Brittany was the Westwind Goddess of Gorgias University.
Although the former Laurel Goddess was standing beside him, he knew that if he dared to name it the Laurel Knights, he'd likely be a bachelor for life.
Dolores didn't object, whispering in Charlotte's ear, "You owe me one."
Charlotte shrugged, acknowledging the favor. Owing the young lady of the Su Mé family a favor was an honor in itself.
As they were finalizing the registration, the middle-aged man casually asked, "How long should the registration last?"
Charlotte's eyes lit up, and he thought to himself, "That coin was well spent."
He lowered his voice and calmly said, "999 years."
