Chapter 24 - TWENTY-FOUR: RED ROSES.

Okay, after the announcement of a mid-term party, the hallways of the school have been going nuts.

There were flowers, cakes, candies, cookies, love notes flying everywhere like it was Valentine's Day.

Every minute, a girl is being asked out to the party. There was love, romance, and a lot of eye-catching surprises, but don't forget, where there is love, there's heartbreak.

The week wasn't really favorable for some people; there were lots of heartbreaks and jealousy arising among the students. Some didn't even stand a chance of getting asked, and it was only a week to the party.

Well, as for me, I have my own problems. Being popular is cool and exciting; I can't believe I've missed this. It really makes one feel alive, but it also comes with a dark side, as every guy you can think of wants to be my date.

Every time I opened my locker, I saw gifts, candies, flowers, cards, whatever you could think of, from boys I don't even know.

"Wow!" Summer gasped when she saw my locker. "Lucky you, I wish I'd get this many requests."

"I'd be happy to switch lockers with you," I said, bringing out all the gifts and trashing them in the nearest bin.

"I envy you, you know," Summer said.

"So, which of them are you going out with?" Eska asked.

"None," I replied. "I barely know any of them. What about you guys?"

"No dates for me," Eska said, then I looked at Summer.

"Daniel asked me out."

"Who the fuck is Daniel?"

"Oh my god, don't tell me you don't know Daniel Martinez."

"I don't."

"He's one of the best players in the games, second only to Jesse. He's quite famous."

"Famous, huh? How come I've never heard of him?"

...

At the cafeteria during recess, I sat beside Pink, placing my food on the table.

"So, find a date?" Pink asked. "A lot of guys are really into you."

"And I guess you're the one giving them my locker code."

She chuckled, then Clary came out to join us, looking excited.

"Girls, I have a date!" she announced.

"Wow, who is he?" Summer and Pink asked.

"He's not a student."

Then they all turned to face me.

"What about you, Terra? Found anyone yet?"

"Erm, no, not yet."

That's when Pink tossed an envelope towards me.

"That's from Zack," she said, smiling widely. "He gave it to me personally to give you, since the rest were stalking your locker."

"And whose fault is that?" I sighed, snatching the envelope from her.

I took out a pink paper from the green envelope, surrounded with red hearts, and scanned through the neat handwriting of carefully selected words. I smiled.

"I'm guessing that smile wins your approval," Clary asked when she noticed it, and I let out a light chuckle.

"It's a date."

...

Later that day, at the school park, I met up with Zack. We sat on a bench under a tree.

"Hey," we waved at each other before an awkward silence swept in.

"Erm... I saw your letter," I said, breaking the silence.

He scratched his head nervously, avoiding eye contact.

"So, what do you think?"

"It's kind of not what I expected, but yeah, I'll be your date."

He smiled, facing me. His blue eyes sparkled as his hair danced around his face.

"I'll see you on Saturday night then."

I replied with a smile and left with my green mini bag dangling at my back.
