Chapter 16 - ~ Starry Pyres Burn Sorrow~

"Mother!" Leo Gale yelled as he jolted awake, his chest heaving. He released ragged and sparse breaths, his body swaying in exhaust. Groaning, his tired and foggy eyes looked around the unfamiliar room. The witch's vision seemed distorted, he saw strange hues surrounding objects. It made him feel nauseated.

Wincing as he moved, Leo pulled the soft black covers off him, making him shiver. He then dragged himself to the edge of the bed and sat up, his bloody feet dangling over the edge. As Leo looked around, he glanced at his hands, seeing them drenched in ichor. The young witch quaked in fear, seeing the red liquid drip from his hands to a bloody trail on the floor.

Leo's eyes followed the blood trail. His body quivered as he gazed upon an albino wolfshifter, who rested against a wall, covered in his own ichor. "K-King Lupin. . .?" He mumbled, voice trembling at the horrifying sight, amplified by the black and pink hues surrounding him, swirling and fighting each other.

As tears streamed down Leo's sickly face, King Lupin's eyes slowly opened, violet irises darting across the room before gazing upon Leo. The King's pained expression softened as he saw Leo, sitting so sweetly on his bed. The witch's eyes were wide, and he flinched when Lupin sat up and smiled reassuringly.

"You're alright, come here." He said, gesturing for Leo to come, but he just trembled and replied in a soft voice, "I-I don't think I can move. . ." While gripping the sheets under him. With a heavy sigh, Lupin ran his pale hand through his hair before slowly getting up with a smile. Feeling pain in his abdomen, the king clenched his stomach as he walked to Leo, stumbling over his own feet.

Once in front of Leo, Lupin released a ragged breath and fell at the witch's feet. The king rested his head on Leo's lap and looked up at him with teary eyes. "I'm so glad you're back, my deity." the king mumbled, wolf ears tilting down. He looked pitiful to Leo, who hesitantly rested his bloody hand on Lupin's head.

The young witch ran his hand through the wolf's soft hair, smiling shyly. "Can we just stick with 'Little Gale'? I think I like that better." Lupin was surprised by the question, but he quickly perked up and teased in a gruff voice, "Little Gale~" with a fanged grin. As Leo blushed bright gold, Lupin burst out laughing, eyes tearing in amusement as he leaned into Leo's soft touch.

Almost out of instinct, Leo's eyes closed out of exhaustion and rubbed behind the king's wolf ear. The witch chuckled slightly as Lupin wrapped his muscular pale arms around his bulky waist, panting under his breath. "Good boy~" Leo purred without thinking, unknowingly rousing the wolfshifter, whose tail had begun to wag uncontrollably.

King Lupin gasped upon hearing Leo's nonchalant compliment, releasing hot breaths with a flushed face. Feeling the king's breath against his bare legs, Leo looked down at Lupin, humming in surprise as he met Lupin's pleading violet eyes. Tilting his head, Lupin asked with a begging voice, "Am I allowed up?" In a common manner a dog would ask its master to let it sleep in their bed.

"Um, yes, it's your bed." Leo answered jokingly, not expecting Lupin to lunge into his arms. The witch gasped as the much larger king straddled his lap and nuzzled into his neck, whimpering lowly. 'I thought wolfshifters were dominant?' Leo thought, confused as he felt something large press against his stomach.

Panting, Lupin softly mumbled in Leo's pointed ear, "You ruin me, Little Gale..." He said, sitting up to look Leo in his pink eyes. "You're like a pyre... It violates against my very nature but... I just can't help but be drawn to your flames." As the wolfshifter spoke, he continued to gasp and release hot breaths, his blemished face burning red.

Leo traced his hand over the king's face, eyes sorrowful and guilt-ridden. No longer beating heart heavy, the young witch didn't know what to say. He felt a burning pain in his chest, suffocating Leo. He could only hold Lupin as he spoke mournfully. "Why... Do I feel so strange? Why do I feel like I don't want to be... Alive anymore?" Leo asked, not noticing his body changing as he cried star dust.

The king watched in amazement as Leo's form changed. His freckles glowed in different hues as his red shoulder length hair blackened with multi-colored streaks, and grew past his waist. The 'witch's' eyes became starry and glossy, with irises shifting colors. Somehow, unknown to him, Leo's body grew, while his witch's markings changed into foreign tattoos and writing.

He looked so melancholy yet so alluring to the wolfshifter, Lupin couldn't help but lean closer to his deity. He caressed Leo's body and kissed away his tears, worshipping the deity. "Sorrow can't reach you when you're in my presence, Little Gale." The king stated, gasping as he trailed his pale hand over Leo's form. Leo released a heavy breath as Lupin gently pushed him against the lake of tears.

'Water?' Leo thought, mind hazy as he gazed out to see him and the king in a giant lake of tears. Panicking, Leo tried to push Lupin off him, but stopped as he met the king's eyes. They weren't his violet eyes, but dim grey.

 "You're an illusion..."

"Always so insightful, my dear child..."
