Chapter 12 - Gray Merchants

'He is so decisive about killing himself? Is he afraid of the church?' At this time, Dylan finally felt fear. 'No, he doesn't strike me as someone that would take his life. It seems he's really afraid that the church will target his family.'

'The church is too evil. To even kill the family just to make someone obey their orders. One day, I'll give the heavens a favor and bury this church in the ground. I'll cut off the priest's dick and feed it to a dog.'

Dylan clenched his fist as he felt hatred for the church that wanted to hunt him.

He was lowkey. He didn't antagonize the church. What did he do to them? There's no conflict of interest. Why can't they just stop and let him go? They were forcing him to the corner!!

Dylan is the most afraid of trouble. They were distractions that served to slow down his actions to achieve his goals. He didn't want those hassles that won't benefit him.

Suddenly, Dylan saw in the distance a bunch of horses like black dots. 'The law enforcement team is here.'

Dylan quickly ran away. He's not afraid that they will go after him. After all, he didn't kill Fujo. It was he who took his own life. As for revealing the church's true color? Dylan wasn't a fool to do such a thing. It was pointless. The church could operate for such a long time. They had a lot of means and connections.

'I need to earn the Asura Soldier's friendship. There might be a reward quest waiting for me if that happens.' Dylan couldn't help but lick his lips. He was looking forward to it.

It was common knowledge in the game that high-level NPCs give a lot of quests, and the majority of them are high-risk high rewards.

...

'They're finally here.'

"Buddy, be obedient and don't provoke those people riding horses beside the carriages, okay?"

Dylan patted the Savage Deer in a good mood. The Savage Deer, who was essentially a younger version of Dylan, understood what Dylan was thinking. After all, both of them are the same person. It was just a question of experience and knowledge.

Ahead of them, there was a black stream-lined carriage with a red banner. On the banner, there was a drawing of a butterfly skeleton that exuded danger and beauty. The carriage was three meters tall and two meters wide. It was being pulled by a horse filled with muscles all over the place with reddened eyes.

Then, around the fast-moving carriage were fast-moving warriors donned in silver armor. They also used horses as their mounts but were just ordinary horses. The riders wore helmets that hid their identity and fully protected their heads.

Dylan couldn't help but feel utterly terrified. All the warriors had a bloodthirsty temperament.

'They probably killed a lot of people throughout their lives with such thick bloodthirsty aura around them! Who are these people? Why did it seem that they're in the same group?'

The carriage in the center with the red banner was the "Gray Merchants." There's really nothing gray about their color or appearance. The gray in their name was derived from the fact that they do business with anyone. No matter if they're good guys, bad guys, or neutral.

They're not afraid of criticism because they have a strong background and their product are indispensable for fighters.

Dylan waited for them because they were the only outside merchants that actively did business in this town. Other merchants won't spare the time and energy due to the distance of this town to other villages and cities. Not to mention, there's really nothing special about this town except that it has a church and has an Asura Soldier living in it in incognito.

"Stop!" One of the warriors at the back of the horse came down. "You seem to be waiting for us?" He asked frankly.

Dylan cleared his throat and forced a smile on his face. "Greetings, warriors from afar; I just happen to see you on the road. The sight of you makes my blood boil and inspires me further to continue my path to become an astounding warrior."

The warriors looked at each other for a moment. The one who came down stared coldly at Dylan ending a shiver down his spine. He felt the killing intent of the man directed at him.

"Who are you? What is your purpose?" The warrior unsheathed his sword and pointed it at Dylan.

The sword looks rusty and filled with small cracks. It has a star symbol drawn on its dark green hilt.

"Don't take us for a fool... You're standing here obviously waiting just for us. You've anticipated our arrival. Likely inquired from people in this town."

"I hate people that spouts bullshit the most. Be direct and clear!"

Dylan didn't expect the other party to be this bad-tempered.

'Status!'

Name: Aguila

Profession: Knight

Level 20

Danger: Extremely Dangerous

'So this guy is level 20...' Dylan knew that even with his Fly and Fire Body skill. The knight in front of him could kill him in just seconds just because of the gap in attributes.

Dylan bowed. "I apologize. I just want to participate in guarding the carriage. Although my strength isn't comparable to you guys, I can use my skills. Pay isn't an issue, I just want to cross the road safely and go to other cities."

Seeing Dylan's attitude, the knight put his sword down. "You can actually use skill. Well, one more force is better. Abjorn, talk with Sid Evan and see what to do..."

Abjorn, another warrior just nodded. Then, he went beside the carriage's entrance covered with black silk. "Sir Evan, what do you think about this?

"Two silver coins. Two cities."

A deep voice came out from the carriage.

Abjorn looked at Dylan with indifference. "You accompany us to two cities and our employer will pay you two silver coins..."

Dylan breathes a sigh of relief. "Thank you. I won't let you guys down."

He didn't expect it would be this smooth. Surrounded by eight level 20 knights, he doesn't need to worry about robbers anymore. He could also earn an additional two silver coins as a bonus.
