Eli's voice cut through the tense silence. "Why is Laurene the one under arrest?" he demanded, his tone sharp. "Her name isn't in any of these banking records for money laundering. You're reaching here, Joe."
Chairman Armand chuckled softly, a sound that seemed to echo off the walls and only added to the tension in the room. "Well," he said, glancing over at Joe with a cool smile, "whoever issued this warrant assumed that Gregory hid the money and that Laurene was somehow in on it." He looked back at Laurene, his words seeming to steady her. I saw a spark of relief in her eyes, a glimpse of hope that Armand was fully committed to saving her.
Eli turned back to Joe, his anger unmasked. "I don't know anything about these so-called transfers or records in Comoros. Maybe try investigating before you rush in here with an arrest warrant," he snapped, his gaze unflinching as he stared down the Deputy Commissioner.
