MAXWELL'S POV
We had just left Armand's home after a happy wine and dine with the families. It was such a heartwarming dinner and Armand's emphasis on family and all of us protecting Phyllis James and ensuring she felt welcome as a family and Kaveesha clarified that they were dating and were living together.
I could tell Milan was happy to see Eli at ease and being embraced by the James family. I could tell that Armand's Aunties were so happy to see Armand so happy and the love that was in the room had the right atmosphere.
We got home late and immediately got to bed. The phone buzzed at 3 a.m. pulling me from a half-dream, and Milan groaned beside me as I reached for it on the bedside table. The second I saw Ibrahim's name flash across the screen, I knew it could not be good. I sat up quickly, heart pounding, and connected the call.
"Ibrahim?" I said, my voice low but sharp. "Why are you calling this late?"
