I pulled out my phone and dialed Kaveesha's number, needing to touch base and see how things were going. After a few rings, she answered, her voice steady but tinged with fatigue.
"Max, hi. How are you?"
I gave a quick nod, even though she could not see me. "Hey, Kaveesha. I just wanted to check in—how's Whitney doing? Any updates?"
There was a brief pause on the other end, and then Kaveesha spoke again, her tone more reassuring. "Whitney's doing much better. She is adjusted well to her new name and her new face. It has been a challenge, but she is managing. We have been keeping a low profile, and so far, everything is going smoothly."
I let out a sigh of relief. "That is good to hear. I was worried about how she would cope with everything. It must be a lot to handle."
