Chapter 169 - Creatures Unleashed

The battlefield roared with life as Valcaria's forces surged forward.

Towering Riftborn creatures, their bodies covered in gleaming mecha armor, thundered across the landscape, shaking the very ground beneath them.

Above, dark clouds swirled in a maelstrom of wind and lightning as Zesphysto, Zara's storm beast, circled, ready to strike.

Each of the armored beasts, a deadly fusion of natural strength and technological prowess, represented the pinnacle of Valcaria's innovation—beasts and machines working as one.

Ryker stood at the front of his army, eyes scanning the chaos ahead.

His hands gripped the controls of Prime Aegis tightly, Shadowfang's fierce growl echoing in his mind.

This was it—their creatures were equipped with the latest advances in mecha armor, and their offensive was stronger than ever before.

They had the power to crush the rival kingdom once and for all.

But something felt wrong.

The enemy forces were not retreating. Instead, they seemed emboldened, rallying as if drawing strength from an unseen force.

And then Ryker saw it—a flicker of strange energy weaving through the ranks of the rival kingdom's army.

The magic was unlike anything he had seen before, dark and unfamiliar, its tendrils creeping through the air like living shadows.

A wave of unease washed over him.

"Kiera," Ryker called through the comms, his voice urgent.

"Do you see what I'm seeing? That magic…"

Kiera's voice crackled in response, calm but laced with concern.

"I see it. They're using something new. Be careful, Ryker. I don't know how it works yet, but it's affecting the Riftborn creatures."

Ryker's heart clenched as he focused on the enemy.

The rival kingdom had been full of surprises lately, with their ancient powers and unexpected resilience.

But this—this magic was unlike anything they had encountered so far. It felt wrong, unnatural, and dangerous.

In the distance, the rival king stood, his presence a dark shadow over the battlefield.

Ryker could almost feel the man's cold gaze on him, watching, waiting. It was as if he knew something that Ryker didn't—as if he had anticipated this battle from the start.

A pulse of energy suddenly rippled through the air, and Ryker's eyes widened in alarm as his creatures began to falter.

One by one, the Riftborn beasts stumbled, their movements becoming erratic as the dark magic crept closer.

Even Shadowfang, who had been snarling fiercely, let out a confused whimper as if something was clouding his connection to Ryker.

"What the hell?" Ryker muttered, trying to regain control.

He could feel the bond with Shadowfang weakening, like static crackling through their shared link.

His hands moved frantically over the controls of Prime Aegis, but the creature's responses were sluggish, delayed.

"They're disrupting the Riftborn bonds!" Zara's voice cut through the comms, panic creeping into her usually steady tone.

"Zesphysto is acting strange—her powers are fluctuating!"

Ryker's heart raced. If the enemy had found a way to sever or manipulate their bond with their creatures, they were in serious trouble.

The entire strength of Valcaria's army relied on that connection.

Without it, their beasts were nothing more than cumbersome machines, their true potential lost.

"Kaid!" Ryker barked, his voice urgent. "We need a solution, now!"

Kaid, fighting from the frontlines, responded with the same intensity.

"I'm on it, but this magic is unlike anything we've seen. It's corrupting the energy itself. We can't counter it until we know what we're dealing with!"

Ryker gritted his teeth, watching helplessly as several of their Riftborn creatures began to fall, collapsing under the weight of the enemy's magic.

The rival kingdom's forces pressed forward, their soldiers chanting as the dark energy strengthened.

Wherever the magic touched, chaos followed—creatures lost their coordination, soldiers faltered, and the once-organized Valcarian army began to unravel.

Ryker could feel the panic rising in his ranks.

If he didn't act fast, everything they had fought for could be lost.

"Kiera," Ryker called again, desperation creeping into his voice.

"We're losing control. I need your help."

"I'm on it, Ryker," Kiera replied, her tone as calm as ever, but he could sense the urgency beneath it.

"Whatever this magic is, it's targeting the Rift's energy. It's exploiting our reliance on the bonds. We need to stabilize it—reconnect the Riftborn creatures to their bonds before it's too late."

Ryker took a deep breath, trying to focus.

He couldn't let this magic break them.

He couldn't let the enemy win.

"Tell me what to do."

"There's a way," Kiera said after a brief pause.

"But it's risky. We need to flood the bond with Rift energy, overriding the interference. It's dangerous, though—if we push too much, the bond could collapse completely. But if we don't, we'll lose everything."

Ryker's mind raced.

It was a gamble, but what choice did they have?

The battle was slipping out of their hands, and the rival king's magic was growing stronger by the second.

"I'll do it," Ryker said, his voice steady with determination.

"Tell everyone to prepare. We're going to push through this."

He felt Kiera's approval through the bond, a brief flash of warmth amidst the chaos.

"I'll guide the others. Be careful, Ryker."

With a nod, Ryker closed his eyes, focusing on the bond he shared with Shadowfang.

He could feel the interference, like a dark cloud smothering the connection between them.

But beneath it, he could still sense the core of their bond—the spark that tied them together.

Taking a deep breath, Ryker reached out to the Rift, drawing on its energy.

He could feel its power surge through him, raw and untamed. He funneled it toward Shadowfang, pushing the energy through their bond, overwhelming the interference with sheer force.

For a moment, everything seemed to freeze.

The battlefield, the soldiers, the creatures—all held in a tense stillness as Ryker fought to reestablish the bond.

And then, with a burst of light, Shadowfang roared to life.

The interference shattered, and Ryker felt the connection snap back into place, stronger than ever.

Prime Aegis responded instantly, the mecha armor humming with renewed power.

Ryker opened his eyes, a fierce grin on his face.

"Kiera, it worked!" he called, his voice filled with triumph.

"We're back online."

Across the battlefield, the other Riftborn creatures began to stabilize, their mecha armor sparking back to life as their bonds were reconnected.

Zara let out a cry of relief as Zesphysto unleashed a torrent of lightning, scattering enemy forces in a dazzling display of power.

Valcaria's army surged forward once more, their creatures roaring in unison as they reclaimed control.

The enemy's magic, while powerful, could no longer disrupt their bonds.

But Ryker knew the battle was far from over.

The rival king still stood, watching with cold calculation from the distance.

His magic had failed to break them, but Ryker could sense that this was only the beginning.

"We've regained control," Ryker said to his generals, his voice resolute.

"Now, we take the fight to them. No more running."

As the Riftborn creatures charged forward, their mecha armor gleaming in the fading light, Ryker knew that this battle would be the true test of their strength.

But with Kiera, Zara, Kaid, and the rest of Valcaria's forces at his side, he believed they could overcome whatever dark power the rival king wielded.

The war for dominion had only just begun.
