Chapter 9 - A hybrid's fate

" for my safety? You mean to tell me that I was actually born as a complete hybrid and not a failure, yet every single one of my abilities which I was born with, was sealed for my own good?."

" Yes, that's correct. Like I said, hybrids are abnormal creatures, and the deities imposed a law which prevents members of different races from producing offspring with another. So in other words, you and the rest of the hybrids are not under the law of the deities, which means they have no authority over your kind."

The showering rain had increased drastically and was now a heavy one, the campfire which Eren had conjured, had long been extinguished.

The two of them were left without warmth under the rainy night sky. Nox was drenched, soaking wet from head to toe, his long silver hair obscured his sight, covering his face partially. Unlike him, his teacher was completely dry. It didn't even seem like he was in the rain and that was because he was currently manipulating the mana surrounding him so the rain wouldn't drench him.

Eren stared at the burnt log which was now soaking wet, as well as the drenched skewers of meat, like he was in a daze, his expression was grim as he continued speaking.

" The chances of having a hybrid child itself is extremely low, and if the baby was eventually born, then it wouldn't survive long enough, at most some only managed to grow up to seven years of age and then the power within them becomes unstable, their body begins to break down from the insides, a slow process that's accompanied by a torturous pain, a hellish one so painful that they'd be wishing for death, and finally after months of relentless pain, they die."

With a snap of his fingers, all the cutleries, plates with the served meat disappeared in an instant, leaving no trace of them being there at all.

Meanwhile Nox remained quiet and unmoving, to Eren it might have looked like Nox wasn't at all affected by what he had heard but that was far from the truth. Nox was stunned by what the wizard had just recently said, stunned to the point where he was rendered speechless and completely frozen on the spot.

His mind was a big mess, various thoughts ran through it, he wondered what his fate would have been if he wasn't made a norm from infancy.

' would I have died as well? After being subjected to a grueling torture, how would my parents feel? Seeing their child die after losing one? No.. I don't want to imagine something like that. They would be beyond devastated.'

His thoughts however were once again interrupted by Eren.

" Your sister Irene was different, unlike the other hybrids, she was perfectly fine, completely free from the clutches of the terrible fate the other hybrids usually suffered from. She was talented, a quick learner and a sweet child. She brought smiles to the faces of others with her clumsy yet cute nature. She was someone a lot of kids her age would want to be around."

' An exact opposite of me huh? The pack members all looked at me like I was some cursed child, I wasn't talented or rather, I never tried to discover my talents and I wasn't someone anyone would want to be around.' Nox thought to himself as his teacher talked about his sister.

" When she turned three, they discovered that she was a werewolf, instead of a hybrid. Your parents were extremely thrilled to know that their daughter wasn't in risk of dying a gruesome death anymore. The year she turned four that's when the incident occured. Your parents and Irene were on their way to the moon temple on mount sevriel when they got ambushed by hunters from the same organization responsible for the massacre of your pack."

Nox balled his hands into a fist, his knuckles had turned white and his effeminate face was laced with fury.

" Those bastards, they were the ones responsible for Irene's death?!."

" Reduce your bloodlust Nox, although I'm using a bit of my aura to suppress the beast that lurks around the forest, they won't hesitate to charge in here and attack if they feel threatened." Eren informed " And yes.. they were involved in the death of your sibling."

Nox was enraged, no not even fury was enough to describe how he felt, he wanted revenge on them, for everything they had done to his family, he wasn't going to rest until he had eradicated every single one of them off the face of the world.

Despite that, he knew he had to stay calm, right now he was extremely weak. He needed to get stronger, what he needed was power, overwhelming power that would make one think twice before daring to cross blades with him.

" Eren, I don't need to know the details as to why I'm being chased, I suspect it has something to do with me being a hybrid, those things don't matter because I'll be destroying those bastards. The only thing I want to know is who they are and what their motives are."

" Those are two separate questions but I'll answer them regardless. .. The organization is called d'rauh, very little is known about it so even I am a little bit oblivious as to what goes on there.. As for the second question, their motives as well are unknown, all I do know is they're particularly obsessed with hybrids and they'll go to great lengths to get what they want."

As Eren spoke, his voice grew a lot grim and his stare was frightening.

" Be warned Nox, do not attempt any reckless action against them, you're far too weak to be able to do anything significant harm to the cult of d'rauh!, You have to get stronger, I won't disclose anything about the cult for now, your obsession for revenge will be your doom if you're not careful, don't let yourself be caught by them"

As soon as Eren finished speaking those words, he stood up and left his student in the rain, entering the warm cabin. He gazed at Nox who was still seated on the log, not bothered by the fact that it was raining cats and dogs.

Nox stood up slowly, pushing his silver hair backwards, he took the training sticks, swung it a few times before he began practicing the way his teacher had taught him but his swings were not steady and as graceful as it had initially been.

Rather it was a rough and crude version of it, but Nox didn't seem to care, there was only one thought going through his head, ringing endlessly like a constant reminder of what he was doing everything for.

' kill... I'll kill those bastards, I'll kill them!!'
