Chapter 270: The Only Hard Part of You Is Your Mouth
Yang Wenyuan sneered, "Anyone who hasn't come back by now is long dead out there."
Lü Dongxuan shot him a cold glare.
Yang Wenyuan immediately felt an intense killing intent and snorted before falling silent.
He Tianchou and Ouyang Wei exchanged glances, their expressions bleak.
Yang Wenyuan wasn't wrong.
Anyone still missing at this point was likely devoured by fire beasts or killed by volcanic eruptions.
"Sigh, who could've expected that Liu Ruyun could control fire beasts? At this point, we can only hope that the Third and Seventh Elders make it here…"
One elder couldn't help but break the oppressive silence.
"Don't count on it. The Third and Seventh Elders are likely surrounded by hordes of fire beasts themselves, unable to spare any effort to come to us."
He Tianchou sighed deeply.
The faint glimmer of hope that had just risen in the hearts of the elders was instantly crushed.
Indeed.
If Liu Ruyun had orchestrated the volcanic eruptions and could command fire beasts,
she wouldn't have overlooked targeting the Third and Seventh Elders, the two strongest fighters.
The Third and Seventh Elders were likely facing an even greater number of fire beasts, struggling just to survive.
They were no longer a viable hope.
The only ones they could rely on now were themselves.
But how could they possibly save themselves against an ever-growing swarm of fire beasts?
Roar! Roar! Roar!
More fire beast roars echoed from outside.
Ye Yan glanced out the window and saw thirty fire wolves and fire leopards charging toward the safe house.
"They're coming again… this is the fifth wave today."
Ouyang Wei's weary expression made it seem as though every word he spoke aged him another decade.
"Wait… something's not right… there's more behind them."
He Tianchou stood up, his eyes widening as he noticed even more fire beasts behind the first group.
Among them were several Flame Flood Dragons, each over forty meters long.
Lü Dongxuan, Yang Wenyuan, and the others quickly scanned the other windows.
"There's movement to the east—at least fifty beasts!"
"South as well—forty-one!"
"The north… oh heavens, the north is packed with them!"
The cultivators' eyes widened in despair.
They understood immediately.
Today was the end.
Liu Ruyun had amassed a large enough force of fire beasts to finish them off in one fell swoop.
Before long, the fire beasts surrounded the safe house.
Several Flame Flood Dragons stood tall, gazing down at the building and the cultivators inside as if sizing them up.
"It's Liu Ruyun! She's here!"
"Damn that wretch! My brother died because of her—I watched him burn alive in the volcanic eruption!"
"I'll kill her myself!"
One of the elders, his eyes bloodshot, pulled out a spirit bow and prepared to shoot.
"Quiet! Let's hear what she has to say," Yang Wenyuan barked.
Liu Ruyun smiled faintly. "Elders, I know what you're thinking. You're hoping I'll show you mercy."
"Unfortunately, I have no such intentions."
"I'm only here to witness your despair."
"This is a small hobby of mine."
She covered her mouth and chuckled, her eyes glinting with a dangerous allure.
But to the elders, her smile was chilling, sending shivers down their spines.
As Liu Ruyun prepared to give the command for the fire beasts to attack,
a disturbance erupted on the outskirts of the fire beast horde.
Liu Ruyun immediately sensed something was wrong and turned to look.
She saw a figure in green.
Not only her, but Lü Dongxuan, Yang Wenyuan, Ye Yan, He Tianchou, and the others also recognized the familiar figure.
"Shen Mo?! Is that Shen Mo?!" He Tianchou and Ouyang Wei's eyes widened in shock.
Lü Dongxuan was overjoyed. "Junior Brother isn't dead!"
"Indeed, he's not dead, but coming here voluntarily is tantamount to suicide," Yang Wenyuan frowned.
Ye Yan remained silent, but his gaze at Shen Mo was cold and filled with schadenfreude.
Clearly, he was hoping the fire beasts would pounce on Shen Mo and tear him apart.
Liu Ruyun looked at Shen Mo and began to laugh.
"Shen Mo, you're an astonishingly talented genius—and the number one name on my list."
"Originally, that spot belonged to Ye Yan, but now it's you."
"You're the person I most want to kill, and I never thought you'd deliver yourself right to my doorstep."
She covered her mouth, laughing with crescent-shaped eyes.
"Junior Brother! Run! I'll buy you some time!"
Bang!
Lü Dongxuan kicked the door of the safe house wide open and charged out.
He Tianchou, Ouyang Wei, and the others followed closely behind, their eyes bloodshot.
Shen Mo smiled faintly. "Senior Brother, don't worry."
"With me here, none of these fire beasts will dare act recklessly. You'll survive, I'll survive, and everyone will make it out alive."
Lü Dongxuan was stunned.
He Tianchou and Ouyang Wei looked at Shen Mo in bewilderment. "What are you talking about?"
Yang Wenyuan and Ye Yan frowned even more deeply.
"What nonsense is he spouting?"
"Unless the Third and Seventh Elders arrive, we don't stand a chance."
"He's just a Nascent Soul cultivator—what can he do?"
"Isn't he just another meal for the fire beasts?"
The other elders exchanged confused glances, unable to understand where Shen Mo's confidence came from.
Liu Ruyun burst into laughter, her shoulders shaking as though she had just heard the most hilarious joke in the world.
"Do you even know how many fire beasts are here?"
"Three hundred and sixty-two."
"Among them, there are four Fifth-Stage Peak Flame Flood Dragons."
"Fifty more are Fifth Stage."
"The rest are at least Fourth Stage."
"I know your strength is extraordinary. You've even slain two Flame Flood Dragons on your own. Seeing you rescue He Tianchou back then did surprise me."
"But how many fire beasts can you possibly kill?"
"Five? Ten? Twenty?"
She turned to glance at the restless fire beasts behind her, wearing a confident smile once more.
"Human strength is limited. You cannot possibly contend with such a massive horde of fire beasts."
"Or perhaps, I'll offer you a way out."
Liu Ruyun smiled slyly. "Your talent is exceptional, and it would be a pity for you to die here. Why not abandon the Jade Cauldron Sect and join the Governor of Yu State?"
The other elders erupted in rage upon hearing this.
"Damn it! She really is working for the Governor of Yu State!"
"The Governor's residence has been planting spies in our sect all along. Unforgivable!"
"And to think the Second Elder trusted them, saying the Governor's residence would ensure stable trade and supply us with spirit and demon beast materials. Utter nonsense!"
Shen Mo looked at Liu Ruyun and shook his head. "Who said I would die here?"
Liu Ruyun chuckled dismissively. "The only hard thing about you is your mouth, isn't it?"
Her expression suddenly turned icy.
"I've given you a chance. If you won't abandon the darkness and embrace the light, then you deserve to die with the Jade Cauldron Sect."
"Today, everyone in the Fire Pill Palace will perish."
Liu Ruyun waved her hand sharply.
All the fire beasts roared toward the sky.
The deafening sound shook the ruins of the palace.
The cultivators in the safe house clutched their heads in agony, their hearts trembling in fear.
It was as if they could already see themselves being torn into countless pieces by the fire beasts.
