Chapter 17 - Ch 17 - Selfishness

"Nova."

A stern voice resonated throughout the hallway as chatter could be heard in the background.

Nova both hands tucked within his pockets looked slightly backwards, a rare serious expression was evident on his face.

His emerald-eye glowed with a certain intensity and his deep blue eye shined under the moon's light.

"What do you think you're doing with that boy?"

"Since when did you care about him?"

"I don't, but I'd rather not see filth like that in my line of sight."

"Then turn around or better yet close your eyes. I have this great blindfold guy I can recommend you to."

Nova's voice was laced with mockery as each word he spoke coming out harsher and harsher.

"Listen here, Ragnar. He's a part of the Mahou Clan, now. If you dare touch him the Mahous will pay you back in full."

Nova threatened him sternly using his clan's name, but Ragnar knew almost two thirds of the Mahou's might was Nova in itself.

A direct challenge to both Ragnar and the Luciens.

"Why? What right do you have to care for some filth you found on the road!"

His stern voice grew louder and louder; his fist clenched in anger, his glare never once leaving Nova's back.

Nova never once even turned to face him adding insult to injury.

"My own selfish desire, is all."

"Hmm?"

Nova with his eyes quickly noticed something seemingly far off.

"Gravity magic..."

Nova muttered under his breath as he teleported off somewhere leaving Ragnar alone in an empty hallway.

The moonlight shown on the stern man his rough brown beard and piercing violet eyes glaring at something seemingly far off.

His brows were furred, and his fist was still clenched in anger.

He looked as if he could choke out a baby if he was even slightly annoyed.

"I'll never forgive you for as long as I live. Not after what happened to her."

His voice gradually got softer, and a hint of regret could be heard as it drifted off.

*********

Two familiar figures could be seen standing inside a library, long rows of books could be seen everywhere you looked and only a bit of sunlight peeked in through the windows.

"Nia~"

"Hmm? Alex, what's up."

I grabbed her soft light brown hair cascading down her back and slowly ran my hand through it.

"Yawn~"

I couldn't help but be tired after all the history I caught up on for class and some personal endeavors.

I sat right beside her as she had her head nose-deep into a book.

"How's classes going?"

I plopped my head down right beside her book on the table looking up so I could see her face.

"Good, what about you Alex? How's freshman year going so far?"

"Normal. I'm going to head out now, I have somewhere I have to be. See you later!"

I waved off to Nia before making my way towards the teleportation building.

'I'm allowed one teleportation per month, for now. So, I'll have to use it wisely.'

*********

A small black-haired boy could be seen running around what seemed to be a run-down alley.

Filth could be seen all over the corners and walls and the boy was digging with both his hands in this said filth.

He was desperately digging as if gold was at the bottom.

Suddenly a dark figure loomed over him and ominously leaned forward down right beside his ear.

"Hello there, Marcus."

The boy jumped with surprise as he looked over towards the man, he began dashing away to an alley.

He desperately ran, he would sometimes fall flat on his knees, but he immediately picked himself up and kept running.

How did the man know his name? He didn't know, he just wanted to get away because he had something worth running for.

He ran and ran and ran until...

He made it to a small little run-down house; the house was both covered in filth and run-down.

His eyes widened as all he could see in front of him was deep red...

apples, red apples as the same man from before could be seen cutting small red apples looking softly towards the young girl below him.

"Hello, I'm Alex Wouden. A student at Incarnation Academy."

'I don't want to use these kids for my own gain. These kids are people too and they don't deserve to be used. I need to remember I'm here because I want of my own selfish wish.'

I reached back into my pocket and pulled out a small card and two tickets.

"Here, go to Breskerville using these tickets and show them this card. Say Ms. Aria Lucien Skye sent the both of you."

'I asked Aria for a quick favor just before meeting up with these two.'

I could see the boy looked skeptic towards me as he nervously took both the card and the tickets from my hand.

"I'm doing this because of my own selfish wish. I don't want to see two talents go to waste out here, get stronger and face me far into the future."

I explained, I could see the little boy's adverse reactions as I spoke.

Fear, doubt, nervousness, suspicion, his face was very expressive as of now.

I lightly patted his small head careful not to hurt him at all.
