Allison's POV
"Breakfast time!"
A voice cuts through the fog of my dreams, and I jolt awake. My head feels heavy, like it's fighting to swim back up from deep waters. Groggy, I try to push myself up but realize something is wrong. I can't move freely—my wrists and ankles are restrained. Panic prickles up my spine.
Then I hear it. A strange sound that gets louder and closer, until it crashes into my ears like a roaring beast. Waves. I'm hearing waves and not the sound I used to hear in the house, this sound is not distant. The sound is too close, too raw and unforgiving. I lift my head, squinting against the daylight, only to feel the sway beneath me, the nauseating, relentless up-and-down motion. My heart hammers like a trapped animal.
