Chapter: 2
I sighed as I as I continued to work in the fields as the the harsh summer sun beat down upon me and the other slaves working on the plantation. It's been a month since I unlocked my magic and I have been practicing non-stop in secret.
I silently when no one was looking created a small wind blade cutting down some sugar cane before collecting them bringing them to the pile. Throughout the month I had gained some understanding on how magic works here. It was quite simple really magic works through Imagination and control very simple concepts really or am I saying that because I'm a 24 year old man from an alternate future in the body in a four year old I'm not sure.
Throughout our the month I silently easdropped on the plantation owner and his family to get a proper understanding of this world seeing as unlike my alternate reality this one had magic I didn't know if anything changed or not. Thankfully not much has changed outside of the addition of magic and supernatural creatures and entities which was quite surprising. I continued working making sure that no one saw me using magic or get caught quote slacking trust those whips don't feel good.
Thankfully night fell quickly and after a meal- if it can be called that- I silently snuck off into the night to practice in my secret spot.
"Phew today was ruff but I managed. Alright let's get started." I said after sitting down.
I raised my hand into the air and pictured a small orb of lightning form just above it. It didn't take long before the signature crackling sound of electricity was heard as a pin pong ball sized ball of lightning formed a few inches above my palm. At one point in time during my training I honestly thought that I was restricted to one or two elements of magic but no that was not the case there was no real limit to types of magic a person can do.
It was then a sound pulled me from my thoughts- The sound of foot steps. I dispelled the orb of lightning and hid and thanks to the lack of light it wasn't hard.
Leaning against a tree a I kept quiet and watched. The foot steps drew closer. The moonlight filtered through the leaves, casting eerie shadows around me. The footsteps stopped, and I held my breath, waiting for the intruder to reveal themselves.
But to my surprise it was a face I didn't expect to see especially this late. It was a boy that seemed around the age of eleven, he had brown hair and dark eyes, and pale skin and he was wearing much nicer clothes than I was. This was Alexander the youngest son of the plantation owner (give a proper description). it's surprising that he's out this late I find it odd that the prodigal son was disobeying orders. He unlike his older brother had unlocked his magic and was the golden child of the family.
Alexander turned and looked in my general direction and spoke. "I know you're there come out."
I stared at him in disbelief but curiosity and surprise. Surprised that even though knowing that I'm here he didn't rat me out. Now a sense of curiosity over took me I stepped into view allowing him to see me.
"You know I'm surprised you knew I was here but didn't rat me out why?" I asked in perfect English.
Alexander looked at me in surprise most likely because he's shocked that someone of my age and race could speak perfect English.
"You seemed surprised." I spoke
"Y-yes I didn't expect someone as young as yourself to not only know English."
"Oh you don't seem surprise that I can use magic." I said curiously
"No, no I'm not." Alexander replied, regaining his composure.
'oh that's interesting.' I thought.
"And why is that?" I asked.
"I- I have old journals made by the explorers that found your people." He said
"Really now," I said, intrigued. "And what do these journals say?"
"They spoke of your people having a natural affinity for magic, It spoke of the men and women that could use black magic that came from your home land," he explained. "My father dismisses it, of course, but I... I always wondered."
'Black magic? He doesn't mean Voodoo does he?' I thought surprised.
"I...see, then I have a question for you. Why did you come out here? what do you want? Because I'm not stupid enough to believe that you came out here to have a chat with me."
Alexander hesitated, looking around as if to make sure no one else was listening. "I came to see if the stories were true. I've seen you sneaking off, and I was curious. I want to learn more about how you use your magic."
I narrowed my eyes, skeptical of his intentions. "And why would I teach you anything? What do I have to gain from this, Alexander?"
Alexander thought for a bit then replied. "I- I can let you use the books about magic I have in the house."
I silently stood there thinking about the offer. 'The books on magic might be if some help but I really don't want to teach him anything. Hmm I could teach him the bare minimum while making look like I'm teaching him something."
Nodding as I figured out my answer. "Throw in the journals and we have ourselves a deal."
Alexander's eyes lit up with excitement. "Deal."
I extended my hand, and he shook it, sealing our agreement. As we parted ways, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of apprehension. This could either be a valuable opportunity or a dangerous gamble. Only time would tell.
