Chapter 4 - forced interaction

The ring toss booth quickly became one of the most popular attractions, with children lining up to try their luck. Emma and Alex worked together, handing out rings and cheering on the participants. Despite their initial awkwardness, they soon found a rhythm, their teamwork improving as the afternoon went on.

During a lull in the activity, Emma turned to Alex. "So, do you do this every year?"

Alex nodded. " No I don't do this every year, but I decided to do something different this year for a change and also for good karma and it's a good way to give back to the community. Plus, it's a lot of fun."

Emma smiled. "I can see that. It's nice to see everyone coming together like this."

Alex leaned against the counter, his expression thoughtful. "It's what makes Seaview special. We look out for each other here, bet it can't compare to your big city with high sky scrappers, neon lights and wide roads", Alex winked at her.

Alex's gaze softened. "Everyone needs a break sometimes. Even high-powered lawyers."

Emma chuckled. "Yeah, I guess we do. But it's hard to let go of that mindset. To trust that things can be different."

Alex was silent for a moment, then spoke softly. "I get that. Running the restaurant, it's all I've known. It's a lot of pressure, trying to keep it going, especially after our parents passed away."

Emma looked at him, surprised by his openness. "I didn't know. I'm sorry."

Alex shrugged. "It's life. We all have our burdens. But sometimes, sharing them makes them easier to bear."

Their conversation was interrupted by a group of children eager to play the ring toss. As they worked together, the connection between them grew stronger. Despite their differences and initial reservations, they found common ground in their struggles and dreams.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the festival, Alex and Emma finished their shift at the booth. They walked together through
