As Joanna lay motionless on the ground, Miguel workers rushed to her aid, their faces pale with shock and fear. One of them checked her pulse, his breath catching in his throat when he felt the weak flutter of her heartbeat.
"She's alive," he called out. "But we need to get her to a hospital now."
They quickly lifted her limp body into the car, one of the boys taking the wheel as they sped towards the nearest hospital.
